Madsen & White Challenge Mullins for the Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil ASA Member Track National Championship

ASA Member Tracks are preparing for incredible finishes to their 2008 seasons

By: Kevin Ramsell

DAYTONA BEACH, FL (Thursday, August 28, 2008) – The weekly short track season at most of the track around the country are starting to wind down for the 2008 season and many ASA Member Tracks are providing some of the best action with drivers competing for track championships. For many tracks, a champion will not be decided until the last lap of the last event of the season, and it is appearing to be that way as well for the Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil ASA Member Track National Championship.

“This is an exciting time of the year for short track racing, asphalt or dirt,” Dennis Huth, American Speed Association President stated. “All over the country, the short tracks are the place to be with many starting to wrap up their 2008 season which means that track champions will start to be crowned. Guaranteed, the racing will be exciting, the emotions will be high, and champagne bottles will be popped open. If a fan hasn’t been to an ASA Member Track this season, now is the time to go.”

In the battle for the ASA Member Track National Championship, Jimmy Mullins continues with the overall lead and East Region lead with a performance indicator of 4.1693. His lead in the National Championship is about as close as his point lead at Franklin County Speedway where he holds a 26-point lead over Rick Sigmon.

Mullins finished third in the first feature holding off Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell with Rodney Cook winning. Mullins did go wire-to-wire to win the second feature.

Mullins has a comfortable lead over Madison International Speedway’s Nathan Haseleu who has a performance indicator of 3.3652. Haseleu was prepared to win his fourth feature in a row this past Friday night but blew his engine with five laps to go. Steve Rubeck picked up the win. Haseleu holds a 67-point lead over Rubeck going into the championship event this Friday night.

Chris Cheek of Friendship Motor Speedway is third in the East with a 3.3560.

Over on the West Region, you can’t ask for a closer battle as Gary Madsen has the lead with a 4.1693 but Linny White is closing in on Madsen with a 4.1609. And both are closing in on Mullins for the overall lead.

Madsen finished third this past Saturday night at West Valley City, Utah’s Rocky Mountain Raceway. He still holds a 113-point lead over Michael Hale in the track standings.

White holds on to second spot and the point lead at Orange Show Speedway. Their next event is scheduled for September 6th.

Dale White from Douglas County Speedway is in third with a 3.9473.

Remember, to be the Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil National champion, the winning driver must have at least 14 events to get a correct performance indicator, have the highest performance indicator and most of all, a track championship.
