Minot, ND —August 17, 2008— Since picking up his sixth Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series A-Feature win of the season on July 9 in the Brad Doty Classic, Jason Meyers had been close to winning on countless occasions over the last five weeks. During that time, he racked up 14 consecutive Top-Five finishes, with 10 of those being on the podium. He broke through on Sunday night at Nodak Speedway in Minot, North Dakota to score that seventh A-Feature win that had eluded him.

For Meyers, the $10,000 victory in the finale of the Gerdau Ameristeel Northern Tour was the 25th of his career with the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series and places him in a tie with Bobby Allen for 16th on the all-time win list. “That’s been a hard one to get,” said Meyers with a sigh of relief. “It seemed like we had it in the bag three or four times and it slipped out. It feels good to finally get that one. These guys have been working very hard. We have had a lot of seconds and thirds here lately. They say the wins will come, and Charlie Garrett (engine builder) keeps telling me every weekend that if we run up front the wins will come. It finally came here tonight. We are looking forward to this run out west and hopefully we can get a few more out there on our home tracks.” Meyers lined up on the pole of the 35-lap A-Feature event aboard the GLR Investments KPC, with Joey Saldana beating him off turns one and two on the high side of the track to lead the opening circuit. Saldana quickly pulled away and was in lapped traffic by the fifth lap of the race. Meyers was able to gain ground in traffic running up top. By the ninth lap, Meyers was just a couple of car lengths behind Saldana and looked low off turn four in a bid for the lead.

On the next lap, he looked high off turns one and two, before the contact between Thomas Kennedy and Saldana led to the latter suffering a flat left rear tire and taking him out of contention for the win, while leading. Saldana paced the first 10 laps of the race as he was chasing his third A-Feature win of the season.

Meyers used a strong start on the ensuing restart to open a comfortable lead over Jac Haudenschild.

“I think the key on a restart is to get off of turn four good and not leave them an opportunity in turn one,” Meyers noted. “I know one time he poked underneath me in (turn) one. If you don’t stumble off turn four, you can get comfortable and get rolling.” As Meyers began to pull away, Daryn Pittman was challenging Haudenschild for second, while the battle for fourth consisted of: Kraig Kinser, Craig Dollansky Steve Kinser, Donny Schatz and Kerry Madsen.

The second caution of the night flew on the 14th lap for Pittman who had a mechanical problem while running fourth, which ended his night. The restart saw Dollansky get around Kraig Kinser for the third spot. Haudenschild was able to keep pace with Meyers and closed in on him just after the halfway point of the race.

With the laps winding down, Haudenschild was able to gain a significant amount of ground on Meyers. The final caution of the night flew with just six laps remaining, giving Meyers some time to cool off his tires and operate in some open race track, though he had to negotiate lapped traffic over the course of the final three laps.

“It was definitely a concern,” he shared when asked about his right rear tire. “I got really tight in the rubber and knew I was using that tire up, but I had to. I could hear the car behind me working really hard, so I had to run it as hard as I could. Then when you get done and you have burned all the rubber off (the tire) you are worried about weight over the scales. The guys did a heck of a job tonight and hopefully we can keep this ball rolling.” Meyers is now tied with Dollansky for second on the World of Outlaws win list this season with seven. He also moved into the second spot on the lap leader board and is one of just three drivers that has led more than 200 laps of A-Feature competition.

“I couldn’t be happier,” Meyers said with a smile. “This is an entire team effort. This is not Jason Meyers, or any one person that makes this all happen. This is a total team effort. I couldn’t be any more proud of these guys and I am just thankful to be a part of it.” Meyers, who is second in points, was able to gain some ground on two-time defending series champion Donny Schatz as the pair battle for the 2008 title. He leads the series with 33 Top-Five finishes and has 38 Top-10 finishes in 42 starts as he chases his first series title.

“The pressure is mounting,” said the native of Clovis, California. “We are right there in the points chase with Donny Schatz. He keeps running really really well and we are trying like heck to catch him. The pressure is on each and every night to perform and try to track him down.” Craig Dollansky picked up his second consecutive runner-up finish in the Snap-on Tools Maxim, after Jac Haudenschild who crossed the line second, came up light at the scales. For Dollansky, the runner-up finish on Sunday night capped off a very strong Gerdau Ameristeel Northern Tour which saw him pick up three runner-up finishes and a fourth-place effort.

“Any time you are running in the top two or three positions, it’s a good run for the team,” said Dollansky. “You always want to win, but coming home second in Bismarck and again here tonight was a good run for the Larry Woodward team. We are ready for Billings.” Kraig Kinser earned his best finish of the season, coming home third in his debut at Nodak Speedway on Sunday night. He lost a couple of spots early, but was able to make those up when Saldana first and then Pittman fell from the race while running fourth or better. For Kinser, it was his ninth Top-10 finish of the season, driving the Bass Pro Shops Maxim.

“It was a very good run,” said Kinser. “We qualified 10th and ran very well in our heat race. We carried that momentum into the dash and finished third and ran well in the feature. It was a great run for the team.” Donny Schatz, who was born and raised in Minot, finished fourth to extend his steak of finishing in the Top-10 in every World of Outlaws A-Feature event to 42 races. He had several epic battles over the course of the 35-lap contest, including with 20-time series champion Steve Kinser.

Kerry Madsen finished fifth in the TK Concrete Maxim to pick up the KSR Race Products Hard Charger Award. Chad Kemenah was sixth in the Kantor Oil Company Maxim, with Steve Kinser behind him in the Q Oil Maxim. Terry McCarl was eighth in the Big Game Treestands Maxim, with Shane Stewart ninth in the Roth Motorsports KPC. Chad Hillier rounded out the Top-10 to earn his fifth Top-10 of the season in the DIRT Inc. Maxim.

Dollansky lined up fifth for the A-Feature, and lost a spot on the initial start to Daryn Pittman. He fell back to seventh on the ninth lap, with Steve Kinser getting around him. As the hallway points of the race neared, Dollansky was able to work his way around both Steve Kinser and Donny Schatz as he marched toward the front.

“Once we got strung out late in the race, especially when it took rubber, it was tough to make anything happen,” noted Dollansky. “For us, we made a few passes on the first couple of laps after a restart. Our car started working better as the race wore on, before the rubber came down. I thought we had a shot at a couple of more spots there, but we have to fall in line and take care of our tires. I was definitely tight once the rubber came in.” The third-place run was the third Top-Five finish of the season for Kraig Kinser, who continues to gain confidence in his first season back full-time in a sprint car since 2005. The 2004 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year had never seen Nodak Speedway until Sunday afternoon and quickly got up to speed on the high-banked 3/8-mile. He looks to use the momentum from the strong run at Nodak Speedway as the series heads west.

“I sure hope so,” shared Kinser, of whether or not the podium finish was the spark the team needed. “We have a lot of great guys here and great sponsors that back us. They are always behind us and it feels really good to get a strong finish for everyone that supports us.” The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series returns to action on Tuesday, August 19 at Billings Motorsports Park in Billings, Montana.

NODAK SPEEDWAY NOTEBOOK • FAST QUALIFIER: Jac Haudenschild paced the 28 cars that took time with an AMB i.t. timed lap around the high-banked 3/8-mile oval at 13.670 seconds at 98.756 mph. For his qualifying effort, Haudenschild earned five bonus points. The next four fastest qualifiers also earned bonus points, including: Terry McCarl (4), Donny Schatz (3), Kerry Madsen (2), and Chad Kemenah (1).

• QUALIFYING WINNERS: Kraig Kinser, Jason Meyers and Joey Saldana won heat races… Jason Meyers won the Crane Cams Dash…. Kerry Madsen won the B-Main.
