| Saturday, August 23, 2008 | | The Cream will Start Rising in the Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil ASA Member Track National Championship | By: Kevin Ramsell
DAYTONA BEACH, FL (Thursday, August 21, 2008) – A major factor in determining the 2008 Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil ASA Member Track National Championship is the performance indicator that a driver has, along with winning their track championship. But, in order for the performance indicator to be accurate, a driver needs to have 14 feature events in order to have a correct indicator.
“Throughout the season the performance indicator that the driver has received is based on percentages. How many cars, how many were inverted, and all of the other factors are in relation to the track within the other tracks,” Dennis Huth, American Speed Association President stated. “The number of races part is a number that doesn’t float; its solid. The American Speed Association needs to have a “number” of races to have as a baseline for the year. That baseline is a minimum 14 feature events. This is so that someone didn’t run one race with 100 cars and wins by default or deception. In the end, under 14 races will not reflect 100% of a driver’s points tally; it’s less than 100%. Once they hit 14 races, everything goes into full value. ”
As the 2008 racing season is winding down, many tracks are starting to reach that 14 race plateau and when that happens, you will see some major changes in the weekly standings as many drivers will have reached their full value and get an accurate performance indicator.
And that change is starting to show especially in the West Region standings as Linny White from Orange Show Speedway in San Bernadine, CA moved to the top of the West standings with a performance indicator of 4.1609.
White, from Colton, CA, has a 54-point lead over Rick Chavez of Murietta, CA as of August 2nd in the BSR West Super Late Model standings and finished third in both 50-lap feature events this past Sunday. He also set a new track record in qualifying around the high-banked ¼-mile oval.
Behind White is Dale Roth of Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg, OR with a performance indicator of 3.9473. The Roseburg, OR driver currently has a 100-point lead over Wade Koens in the ASA Premier division. Roth did take home the feature win this past Saturday night.
Cary Stapp and Gary Madsen, each who have sat at the top of the West Region Standings fell back to third and fourth respectively. Stapp has a 3.9185 while Madsen has a 3.8673.
Over on the East Region, Jimmy Mullins of Franklin County Speedway still sits at the top with a 4.6453. Mullins is starting to feel some pressure from Rick Sigmon who is only 26 points behind him in the standings.
Moving into the second spot is Chris Cheek of Friendship Motor Speedway in Elkin, NC. Cheek has a performance indicator of 3.3560 and currently has a 40-point lead over Tony Hicks in the Crate Late Model standings.
Nathan Haseleu from Madison International Speedway in Oregon, WI is third with an indicator of 3.2652. Haseleu picked up another feature win at MIS this past Friday night and currently has a 111-point lead over Steve Rubeck in the track standings.
