| Wednesday, August 6, 2008 | | Sean Murphy Seeks Revenge on Bristol | Bristol, Tenn. Wednesday August 6, 2008 Sean Murphy will pilot the #32 ASI LIMITED, Akzo Nobel, Spectrum Metal Finishing Chevy ASA Late Model on Saturday afternoon for the second running of the Thompson Metal 200 at Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tenn. Last year Sean Murphy was one turn away from capturing his first win in the ASA Late Model Series and his first win at Bristol.
With a 4-car length lead he took the white flag and appeared to have the race win sealed up. But as he entered turn 4 the right front wheel broke on his race car sending him hard into the wall. Murphy crossed the finish line backwards posting a 4th place finish.
It was one of many close victories that season which were taken away to odd circumstances. Murphy and the SS-Green Light team were on mission this season to find victory lane. So far they have done just that, compiling 4-victories, 1-track record and currently reside 3rd in the points championship chase.
This Saturday Murphy will return to Bristol where the SS-Green Light Racing team hopes to finish what they were robbed of last year, a win at the famed Bristol Track. "I'm probably more excited about this race than any other so far this year," said Murphy.
"I want to go up there and win this event. I think we have some great momentum going right now. We had it won last year and I think we can put ourselves back in that same position this year."
Murphy's team will be lead by Crew Chief, Butch Miller. Miller has countless wins as a driver, but is beginning a new record book as a crew chief/coach for SS-Green Light and Sean Murphy. The pair won the last ASA Late Model Challenge event at Salem Speedway in Indiana. Miller hopes for a repeat win at Bristol, but will also keep the point's championship in mind as they are moving closer to re-claiming the lead in the points.
Although Murphy won 3 of the 5 events this year in the ASA Challenge Division two finishes of 12th and 16th moved him back in the points and the team has been catching back up since.
"When we win races we've done our job and all we can do to catch back up in the points," added Murphy. "We just have to take it race by race and keep focused on the event we are at in the moment. Whatever shakes out with the points is what it will be. Sure we want to win the championship. But so does every other team out there. We just can't dwell on it and need to focus on each event. Right now it's Bristol. That's what the job is right now, Bristol. I can't wait to get there."
The Thompson Metal 200 will be the feature event of an action-packed evening that includes a 15-lap Charger race, a 25-lap Street Stock event and a 50-lap Mod 4 Mini Stock Race. The night will be finished off with a smash up Demolition Derby. Tickets for Saturday's event are $15. Pit Passes are $35.
Children under 12 are free with a paying adult. Gates open at 6pm with the first race event scheduled for 7pm.
