Casey Smith Cruises to a Viper Series Win

Contact: Chris Ragle

Austin, TX 8/5/08- The fans of the South Alabama Speedway were once again treated this weekend as Texas native and fan favorite Casey Smith won his second Viper series win of the season. Even after a short hiatus from behind the wheel of his Rapid Disposal Chevy Monte Carlo, Casey showed no ill effects of the time off behind the wheel by setting the fastest time in qualifying and then following it up by leading some 110 laps in route to victory.

“What a way to come back from a break? I just want to thank my family, Rapid Disposal, and all the supporters of Casey Smith Racing and especially the fans here at Opp. This was a fun one here, to be able to run all 125 laps on four tires and win like we did is just awesome. Our car got a little free those last 20 laps or so but I had already made up my mind I wasn’t taking tires and spending the extra money,” stated Smith in victory lane.

With the win Casey expanded his points lead over his fellow competitors all with the hopes of being crowned the back to back two time South Alabama Speedway Viper series champion. Last season Smith dominated at the 4/10 mile facility winning all four of the Viper series events and capturing two poles along the way. With just two races remaining on the Viper series schedule Casey feels his chances of repeating are as strong as ever.

“We’ve got a good chance to do something pretty cool by winning back to back Viper series championships. If we can just do a better job in the second half of the season of keeping our nose clean we should be alright. I drive a long way from Texas to Alabama for each one of these races, so I make sure that when we show up we are prepared and ready to race up front,” said Casey.

The next event for the Casey Smith Racing team will be on August 15th and 16th as the team will travel to the Five Flags Speedway for Blizzard super late model series race number three on Friday night. Then on the following night the team will head to Mobile International Speedway for round three of their super late model series.
