CARRIER UNBEATABLE IN 2ND ANNUAL ENGINES INC. 50 FEAURE AT THE ROCKY TOP RACEWAY

By T.J. Layne

COAL GROVE, Ohio -July 11, 2008- One of the biggest races of the year, the "2nd Annual Engines Inc. 50" got underway at Rocky Top on July 11th under sunny skies. Late Model competitors from five different states (OH, KY, WV, NC, TN) gathered to go after the $5,000 top prize. The racing surface was very fast as Eddie Carrier Jr. came one-tenth of a second from breaking the track record in time trials.

In the "2nd Annual Engines Inc. 50" Late Model A-Main, Josh McGuire and Greggie Oliver battled side by side for the lead for the first four laps before a caution flew for a hard crash by Daniel Williams. On the restart, McGuire and Oliver continued to go at it side by side while Eddie Carrier Jr. and Brasstown, North Carolina's Ray Cook joined in making it a four way battle for the lead. Unfortunately on lap nine, Cook slowed and was done for the night.

On the restart, Carrier got a strong run on the outside and got by Oliver for second and set his sights on McGuire. On lap 14, McGuire got a little loose in turn two and got crossed up in front of Carrier as the two made contact! Both drivers kept going as Carrier stormed into the lead. Carrier was unbeatable from there as he led the remainder of the race to come across the line and win $5,000 in the "2nd Annual Engines Inc. 50"! McGuire finished second with Jackie Boggs third, Tim Dohm fourth, and Rod Conley fifth. Josh McGuire, Steve Lucas, and Ray Cook won Engines Inc. heat races.

Todd Robinson took the lead at the start of the Tomahawk Race Car Modified A-Main. The early portion of the race was one of attrition as there were several caution flags. Meanwhile, nobody could touch Robinson as he led the entire twenty laps to take his fifth feature win of the year! Darren Muncy finished second with Craig Christian third, Randy Boggs fourth, and Dale Lyons fifth. Robinson brought home an extra $100 for his win courtesy of Wayne Pennington for County Commissioner. Darren Muncy won the $100 fast qualifier award courtesy of Doug Malone while Todd Robinson won the Tri-America Contractors Dash. Greg Thompson and Dale Lyons won Engines Inc. heat races.

In the Mod Lite A-Main, Tyler Reno took the lead at the start while a good battle for the second position occurred between Tony Sites and Dennis Lampheir. By the halfway mark of the race, Reno had pulled out to a straightaway lead as he led every lap to remain undefeated at Rocky Top! Lampheir finished second with Chris Stone third, Jerry Cushing fourth, and Kevin Spencer fifth. Tyler Reno and Tony Sites won Engines Inc. heat races.

"The most exciting, action packed show in town" at Rocky Top continues on Friday, July 18th with a full racing program of Late Models, 30 laps for $2,000 to win, Tomahawk Race Car Modifieds $650 to win, Bombers $350 to win, and Mod Lites $200 to win. General Admission is $12 with Pit Admission $25. General Admission for kids 7-12 is $2 while kids 6 and under get in free. RTR features grandstand seating along with plenty of places for lawn chairs.
