Custer wins First Two Races of His Mini-Cup Career

JENNERSTOWN, PA(Jul. 12) Matt Custer had all the right moves on this July evening at Jennerstown Speedway. The 16-year old from Alum Bank, PA kicked off the New Enterprise Stone & Lime Company sponsored night winning the first of two Super Mini-Cup races. That race was to make up for a previously rained out event. He followed that up by winning the night’s regular feature. The victories were the first two of Custer’s mini-cup.

“I knew I had the car in the first feature, but I didn’t know how it was going to work out in the second,” said Custer. “It was awesome.”

Finishing second in both features was Heath Hendershot of Williamsport, PA. The first feature saw Ken Stabley finish third, Nicole LaPorta finish fourth and Mark Lockcuff finishing fifth. Lockcuff moved up two spots to finish third in the second feature while LaPorta and Stabley took fourth and fifth.

The 40-lap Super Late Model feature was won in dominating fashion by the 07 car of Jason Mignogna. A caution on lap 16 allowed the field to tighten up, but Mignogna proved to be too strong for the rest of the field. Barry Awtey took second while Gary Wiltrout took third and Todd Price took fourth followed by Robert Delanoy to round out the top five.

The Street Stock division saw a tight race won by Andrew Kostelnik. Though Kostelnik led all 20 laps of the feature he had plenty of company. Brother and teammate Adam Kostelnik was hot on his trail finishing second with Bryan Awtey, Jim Bodziak and Lauren Butler finishing third, fourth and fifth.

Steve Long started the 15 lap Hobby Stock feature in fifth, but by the second lap of the race he maneuvered his #27 Dodge Neon into first place. He didn’t look back the rest of the night and went on to win the race. Finishing second was Eugene Zerfoss with his vacationing brother from Tennessee, Douglas, finishing third. Matt Sever and Deidre Petrie.

Next Saturday will feature regular three division racing with the main gates opening at 5:30PM and heat races starting at 7:30PM.
