Ray Tucker Captures Carolina Clash Victory at Clary's Speedway

From Michael Christopher

BRINKLEYVILLE, NC -June 28, 2008- Ray Tucker ended a long dry spell with the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series when the veteran driver claimed the $5,000 win at Clary's Speedway Saturday night. For the Greensboro, NC native it was his ninth career series victory.

Ocean Pines, MD driver Richard Jarvis Jr, set fast time in Mega Plumbing of the Carolina's Qualifying to earn the right to start for the pole position in the 26 car field.

As the green waved Tucker immediately went to work on Jarvis for the lead as G.R. Smith joined the mix. Two drivers that were on their way to the front were Booper Bare and Jeff Smith. The duo started from the sixth row and worked their way inside the top ten by half way.

Jarvis' hopes of a win ended when the polesitter went pitside with mechanical issues. This left Tucker to fend off the challenges of G.R. Smith and Ricky Weeks.

Weeks the four time and defending series champion was looking for his first victory of the 2008 season. He managed to slide by Smith with six laps to go but a spin by Brent Robinson relegated him back to third.

Robinson, the 2007 PBM Performance Parts Carolina Clash Rookie of the Year was having a very strong run and lost a top five finish with the spin. After the caution Tucker was able to drive away for the win. Smith held off Weeks for third with Dustin Mitchell fourth and Bare fifth. Sixth through tenth went to Jeff Smith, J.C Clary, Ed Gibbons, Chris Marshall and Doug Sanders.

Current series points leader Dennis 'Rambo' Franklin fell out of the event early and was credited with a 24th place finish. Clary and Roger Lucas won the Heat races. Ryan Foran was the Heintz Brothers Performance Hard Charger of the Race.
