| Johnny Bridges Wins USCS Sprints at Carolina Speedway | By Nicole Marcum
Gastonia, N.C. (June 27, 2008) – USCS Sprint Series thundered into Carolina Speedway Friday night for the first time in two years and Jeff Bridges came out on top.
The sprints began the show with a four-wide fan salute. Every fan in the house was on their feet and waving to the drivers before the green flag dropped. The flagman gave the signal and Jeff Bridges weaved in and out of traffic to take the lead. Bridges 700 horsepower machine was hooked up. “I am so glad to win this race here at Carolina Speedway for the hometown fans,” exclaimed the Cherryville native from victory lane. The GM Performance crate models also put on an awesome show as Ross Bailes was able to out run Johnathan Davenport and Ty Dillion. Even the king of Carolina, John Pursley couldn’t touch Bailes. The top-five was Bailes, Davenport, Pursley, Gary Puckett, and Pat Lindsay. Jerry Oliver piloted the Y44 machine into victory lane once again in the street stock division. Young gun Ben Watkins came across the stripe second with Frankie McGuire, Ronald Pope, and Jeff Graves in tow.
The renegade battle was furious as young gun Patrick Lyon fought for two-in-a-row. Although Lyons 01 machine was superior, he was light at the scale and disqualified. Ronald Pope was credited with the victory. Gene Moffat, Shorty Lacey and Ricky Pride rounded out the top-five.
Brian Stang went to victory lane in the pure stock four division with Brian Nuhfer, Wayne Curtis, Rollo James, and Ashley Harding battling for position behind him.
