RANSOMVILLE, NY -June 27, 2008- There was a fine ribbon of real estate on the top of the Ransomville Speedway on Friday night that separated hero and zero; Chuck Hebing kept his No. 28 on the right side of that equation and scored his second-straight ASCS Patriot win.

Hebing, of Ontario, NY, snatched the lead from defending Ransomville winner Jared Zimbardi on a lap 19 restart and ran away from the pack to collect the ransom at “The Big R”.

“Jared was going really good on the bottom and I knew I had to go to the top to pass him,” said the “Cobra”. “A few times there I got really close to the wall but especially in turns 1 and 2 that was where I was the fastest.” After winning his first National Parts Peddler Heat of 2008, “The Cobra” started in sixth after a poor redraw but did not waste much time moving forward. On the second lap he went three-wide around two cars to move into fourth and then threaded the needle coming off the next set of corners.

During a red flag period on lap four for a Curt Sherwood flip, Hebing slid the wing of his Bud Burlew-owned ‘Junkyard Dog’ No. 28 all the way back to compensate for his loose handling race car. That was the just the tweak the defending series Champion needed to continue his march forward.

Hebing jumped into second on a lap nine restart but seemed to be slower than Jared Zimbardi, who defeated Cobra in the same event last season. On multiple occasions he came within a foot of the turn two wall and allowed Zimbardi to stretch his advantage. After the halfway point though, he would cut the gap, and on lap 19 that he would get a strong enough run to capture the lead.

“Zimbardi was right there for the win tonight,” said Hebing in Victory Lane.
“After I got around him I went down to the bottom cause I knew the way his car was that was where he had to run.” The win was Hebing’s 30th in a points paying ASCS Patriot event. It was his second win in as many attempts in the No. 28. Chuck quipped in Victory Lane, “I hope Bud (Burlew) doesn’t fire me.” Zimbardi’s second place run was the second-straight finish behind Hebing.
It helped him to continue gaining on the points lead though as the season continues in high gear. Zimbardi took the lead from Scott Kreutter on lap 6 but fought a loose condition in the late stages to surrender the lead.

Tim Kelly started third and would finish there, but in between would fade as far back as eighth before charging back up by using a daredevil line on the top of the speedway similar to Hebing.

The Breen Brothers rounded out the top-five with Blake hanging around his fourth place finishing position for most of the race by running the bottom of the ½-mile. Bobby had to come from farther back, winning the Pro-Syn Oil Technology Four Laps of Fame, which started him in ninth. He was running in eighth with two laps remaining, when he too found that fine line on the top of the track and flew up to finish in fifth.

Scott Kreutter faded with a loose car to finish in sixth, just edging out point leader Bryan Howland, who won NPP Heat No. 3. John Schuyler, Don Adamczyk and Mike Stelter completed the top-10.

A total of 25 cars were in the pit area on a beautiful summer night. Four cars would not be able to make it to the feature though as Joe August Jr.
crashed hard in hot laps, Robbie Shuttleworth and Canadian Craig Downie flipped in their heats and Bruce Dewick broke a coupler.

Scott Bonnell, who was the KSE Hard Charger on the night, was set to get into the Top-8 Redraw when his fuel line went on the No. 3B, sending him pitside a lap early.
