| FRIDAY 13TH. LUCKY DAY FOR FAUCETTE |
ALTAMAHAW, N.C. -June 13, 2008- Speedy Faucette of Mebane proved the Friday the 13th. was just another race night for him. After securing the pole in qualifying with a 15.749, Speedy was still able to start in that position after a blind draw of the top five. Along with his third victory of the year, it was also a move in to the top points spot in the elite Late Model Stock class. Gibsonville’s Jessie Ingle, III finished in the second spot. Jessie wasn’t feeling well after with race because of a combination of the heat and little rest going into the race. Elon’s Scotty Warren finished third followed by McLeansville’s Dustin Rumley.
It looked like the bad luck was going to give the 13th. team of Robert Turner a break Friday night. After coming through the field with less than seven laps remaining it looked like Turner had the runner-up position sealed. Then in turn one the engine of the 13 car turned loose. Reidsville’s Rodney Cook took to the pits after only six laps with a rear-end problem that they are fighting this year.
Pffafftown’s Randy Butner took his first victory of the year in the Modified division. Burlington’s Gary Young, Jr. finished second and Phil Bryant of Gibsonville took third. Brad Allen also had Friday the 13th. luck that took caused him to be side-lined.
Burlington’s Ziggy Zimmerman was very dominate in the Limited Sportsman race. It was Ziggy’s second win of the year. Kevan Combs of Oak Ridge and John Moore of Pelham took the second and third places. Ziggy was also fastest qualifier with a lap of 16.198.
The 40 lap Mini Stock race was probably the most entertaining of the night. Chad Sykes of Haw River had his first victory in more than two years. Chris Breedlove of Brown Summit finished a strong second with Mocksville’s Archie Sanders scoring third after his son A. J. Sanders had to take over driving duties after A.J.’s car developed problems and Archie suffered health problems.
The most entertainment of the night came when the cars of Jason Cook and Mike Herron had to be parked because of roughhousing during a caution period. Jason stopped his car at the pit entrance and raced on foot the whole backstretch to the car of Mike Herron. Still wearing his helmet and having to be subdued by officials, Jason let it be known that there was further business to be attended to. Other Friday night winners were Mebane’s Keith Spake in Xtremes and Charlotte’s Josh Turner in the Southeast Mini Cups. Ace Racing Now Live On Internet
