| Round Two of the Blizzard and Miller Lite Super Late Model Series for Casey Smith | Austin, TX 5/20/08- If there is a track that Casey Smith has had trouble with over the past few seasons, the Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida would have to be it. However; after a solid eighth place finish in the first Blizzard series race of the ’08 season that may all change this weekend as Smith will head to the track on Friday for the second round of the five round mini-series. The team will then head just sixty miles west to the Mobile International Speedway for the second race of their five race Miller Lite super late model mini-series.
The Texas native, fresh off his first win of the season at the South Alabama Speedway, knows what it takes to get around both tracks in this weekend’s schedule. In the opening round of the Miller Lite super late model series Casey led early and often until a disgruntled lapped car rammed into the #99 Rapid Disposal machine under caution while leading after it had made the mistake of thinking Casey had spun him out when it happened to be another fellow competitor whose number was also #99 thus costing Casey the race.
“What happened in Mobile the last race was a freak thing as far as getting taken out, but I don’t think this team running up front and competing for the win was out of the ordinary. We had a great car that got better as the race went on and as a driver, that’s a dream ride. As far as it goes for Pensacola, that’s a totally different deal, we plan on really focusing on getting the car to run better at the end of the race. We just seem to never pick up as much as a lot of these other guys do when they put on new rubber. I know we ran better last time out but we still have a little bit of work to do to make us better,” stated Smith, the 2007 Mobile International Speedway Miller Lite super late model champion.
So far, Casey has had solid runs at all tracks including Five Flags Speedway, Mobile International Speedway, and South Alabama Speedway. He is also in the chase for the championship at all three. Smith is the current leader at South Alabama and stands eighth at Pensacola and twelfth in the standings at Mobile.
“It would be pretty cool to finish in the top five in points at all three tracks. Last year we won at both Mobile and South Alabama but struggled a bit at Pensacola. We have put our best foot forward so far and have a realistic chance at finishing good at all three places. As long as we run our race and can stay out of everyone else’s mess I think we’ll be all right,” stated Smith with a smile.
