| Defending champion Cook picks up first win of season at Ace | By Brenda Murphy
ALTAMAHAW, NC -May 16, 2008- The weather was chilly but the action was hot at Ace Speedway. The 100 lap Late Model feature was packed with some of the most exciting action of the season so far.
Reidsville's Rodney Cook, last years champion, picked up his first win of the season. It seemed that Burlington's Robert Turner had command of the race when Robert took the lead from the initial green and had a commanding lead when a motor problem sidelined him after leading the first 57 laps.
Dean Fogleman took point spot and with 13 laps remaining in the race, his engine expired. Burlington's R. D. Smith had his best finish of the season finishing in second place. Mebane's Speedy Faucette finished third after a hard fought battle with Jason York that left Jason's car damaged and Jason finishing a disappointing 11th place. Jason Payne had a good solid forth place finish with new-comer Mack Little finishing out the top five.
Gary Young, Jr of Burlington, who is also leading the points, won his second race of the season. Mebane's Roy Cook finished second and Richard Thomas took third. Brad Allen had the opening lead when a part failed on his car. Randy Butner had to exit the race after a hole in the oil pan of his race car.
Ziggy Zimmerman of Burlington won the 25 lap Limited Sportsman race. This gave Ziggy his first win of the season. Eden's Bobby Griffin finished second with Pelham's John Moore taking third.
Mini stock race was no less exciting. Mocksville's A. J. Sanders won his third race of the season with his Dad, Mocksville's Archie Sanders finishing behind him in second. Elon's Mark Wilburn inherited third after the cars of Jason Cook, Chad Sykes, and Jamie Orange were disqualified following post race inspection.
Other Friday night winners were Michael Myrick and Harold Jefferson in the two Xtreme races, Ricky Seay in the Southern Ground Pounders Modified Division and Gary Lloyd in the Southern Ground Pounders Sportsman Division.
