Poore, Jackson, Allman, Burton and Abbott Grab Spring Championships at Anderson Speedway

ANDERSON, Ind. (May 17, 2008) – The annual Spring Championships entertained the fans Saturday evening at Anderson Speedway as Josh Poore took the Ed Martin Chevrolet SuperTruck win while Katie Jackson earned her first career Street Stock victory. Other drivers that claimed Spring Championships included Anderson’s Rob Allman in the ImmediaDent Figure 8’s, Lonnie Burton in the ThunderCars and Trevor Abbot in the Quick Auto Front Wheel Drive Pro.

Josh Poore, who was fast qualifier at 13.818 seconds, never gave up the lead in the SuperTruck feature but was hounded the entire distance by Joe Beaver who finished second. Rod Phipps, Mark Livesay and Jerry Faucett rounded out the top five. Phipps and Faucett were heat winners.

2007 Rookie of the Year Katie Jackson drove into the winner’s circle for the first time in the Street Stocks. Jeff Perry, who was fast timer at 14.012 seconds, put the heat on in the waning laps, but Jackson used lapped traffic to her advantage to keep Perry at bay. Perry was runner-up followed by Jake McElfresh with Ronnie Rose and Rich Boyer to round out the top five. Jon Conklin and Scott Brooks were prelim winners.

Rob Allman, who was fast qualifier at 15.070 seconds, turned in an impressive performance to score his second ImmediaDent Figure 8 victory of the season. Several near misses in the intersection excited fans. Allman had smooth sailing most of the way with Ranny Hinton the closest pursuer. Hinton took runner up honors with Herb Rose crossing the line in third position. Former division champion Shawn Cullen placed fourth with Mike Riddle Jr. completing the top five. Ronnie Rose and Joe Hart Jr. collected heat race victories.

Lonnie Burton worked his way through traffic from sixth starting position to grab the first ThunderCar main event of the season. Burton looks like a strong contender for the title that eluded him last season. A shake up in the field right at the end of the race saw a Dennis Farver Sr. advance to second spot at the checkered flag. Third was Sam Folsom with PJ Swallows and Travis Burge completing the top five. Burton and Stephen Counceller were prelim winners in heat races.

In the fifth division of the night, Trevor Abbott, continued his strong start to the season with driving to the winner’s circle in the Quick Auto Front Wheel Drive Pro feature. Abbott was pursued closely by teammate Gary Bragg Jr., who earned runner-up honors. Third was Donnie Ellis Jr. with Randy Hoppes and Gary Bragg Sr. rounding out the top five. Hoppes was the heat winner.

Anderson Speedway returns to racing action on Wednesday, May 21st with the start of Pay Less Little 500 week. Activities for the 60th Pay Less Little 500 kick off on Wednesday, May 21, with practice beginning at 11:15 a.m. The USAC National Sprint Cars will compete in the 9th Annual Glen Niebel Classic – Banjo 100 presented by Sam Pierce Chevrolet on Wednesday evening. The Ed Martin Auto Group SuperTrucks will also be part of the Wednesday night program.

First round qualifications for the 60th Pay Less Little 500 will take place on Thursday, May 22, beginning at 1:30 p.m. On Friday afternoon, May 23, the 33-car field will be set with the second round of qualifications. On Saturday, May 24, the 60th Pay Less Little 500 green flag waves at 8 p.m.
