Jordan takes hotly contested Crate Late Model feature at Lavonia

By Bill Kellett

Lavonia, GA -May 11, 2008- Friday night racing has returned to the North Georgia area in a big way! Lavonia Speedway switched from Saturday to Fridays and under the direction of Brad York, has started to pull large numbers of racers and fans. Friday night May 9 another pit load fof cars rolled into Lavonia Speedway and so did the fans. Steven Segars made it to victory lane in the Limited Late Models with Tony Headen second. Both Segars and Headen have experienced motor problems this season, but they both had fast cars Friday night. Brandon Haley was third in the Limiteds.

The Crate Late Model Feature was a hotly contested affair with Grant Jordan coming out on top. George Reece Jr. who would go on to win at toccoa saturday was second. The Hobby race was Hobby won by Chris Nickerson, who edged out Phil Bryant. Mike Miller had to fight off a charging Jack Hill to take the Enduro win.

The Stock 4 feature went to Kevin Kelly with Roger Nickerson second. James Goodwin was across the line ahead of Otis Fleeming in the Up Front stock feature. This week, May 16, Lavonia will feature a $1,000 to win Crate late Model race. The Crates, who are fastrak sanctioned at lavonia and Toccoa speedways, have provided fans with some of the best racing this season. The fan base for the Crates has continued to grow and so have the car counts. It's not uncommon to see 20 or more Crate late Models at any given track on a regular show
night and upwards of 30 to 40 when the larger races are run. A lot of the "veterans" have added Crates to their garage, Parker Herring, Hot Rdod lammance, Paul Byrum, Bubba Russell and others to name a few. One Veteran driver who has joined the ranks of Crate late Model drivers is Royce Bray. Ronnie Johnson has alkso been seem piloting a Crate car. Meanwhile the "young" Crate Drivers have atracted many fans. Brandoin "Cornbread" Haley comes to mind, as does Kenny Collins, Jonathon Taylor, Ryan Bryson and others.
