GAS Series/Peach State Speedway Media

Jefferson, GA - - Russell Fleeman of Dacula, Georgia took the checkered flag Saturday night at Peach State Speedway in the Georgia Asphalt Series Spring Fling 100, but, didn't receive the grand prize until Monday. GAS Series officials performed an extensive post race inspection on Fleeman's engine. Officials have determined that Fleemans racer was legal. Fleeman dominated the last third of the 100 lapper after taking the lead on lap 41. Fleeman battled hard with Ryan Sieg of Decatur, Georgia, for several laps after Seig had taken the lead on lap 17 from Joey Senter of Jefferson, Georgia.

Wes Burton of Kannapolis, North Carolina made a hard charge at Fleeman after the halfway point of the race but was unable to reel him in.

There were intense battles throughout the field during the race. One of the battles was between top rookie and SUNOCO/Bearden Oil Company Pole Winner, T.J. Reaid and Jimmy Garmon. Both of the racers came together on the back straightaway, causing both to spin toward the inside restraining wall. Garmon was able to continue, but Reaid's car was out for the evening due to extensive front end damage.

Rounding out the top ten were, Burton, Seig, Senter, Richard Johns, rookie Kyle Mitchell, Nick Potts, rookie Zac Kittle, Rodger Delp and Chris Whorton.

NOTES: Several newcomers were on hand for the first time in 2008. Rookies James Nealis of Gainesville, Georgia and Josh Adkins of Cumming, Georgia. GAS Series veterans Larry Jordan, Dennis Wilder , and Beau Slocomb were also on hand. Former Peach State Speedway Champion Clay Dale, debuted his new car.

Tough night for rookie's T.J. Reaid and Max Gresham. Reaid was involved in an accident on lap 48 and Max Gresham spun in turn two in qualifying, hitting the outside retaining wall. He was unable to start the main event.

The GAS Series has about a 4 week break before heading to south Georgia for their first of two visits to Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Georgia on Saturday, June 7th.

LOCAL DIVISIONS:
OUTLAW LATE MODELS: Mike Davidson of Lula, Georgia, checked out on the Outlaw Late Model field to win the 35 lap feature. Rounding out the top 5 were Hoyt Stephens of Jefferson, Terry Martin of Pendergrass, Russell Shore of Jefferson and Bryan Hardeman of Danielsville.

MINI STOCKS: Steve Hill of Jefferson bested the 24 car Mini Stock field. Hill was followed by William Earnest also of Jefferson, Spanky Hicks of Gainesville, B.J. Thrasher and Tim Green.
