O'Reilly Southern All Star Racing Series Doubleheader Weekend Set May 9th and 10th

HUNTSVILLE, AL—The O'Reilly Southern All Star Racing Series has set a pair of 50 lap $5,000 to win events at two of the southeast’s top notch and river friendly facilities as the series will return to the North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL., for a 50 lap $5,000 to win on Friday night May 9th. This will be the first time the series has been at North Alabama Speedway since 1996 and promoter Jeff Greer wanted to get the series back at the track that is was all started at back in 1983 with the very first Southern All Stars event.



Then on Saturday night May 10th the series will move to the “Baddest Bullring in the South” the Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS., for the John L Cliett Memorial 59 lap event paying $5,000 to win also for this event. This event will also be co sanctioned with the SUPR Racing Series out of Baton Rouge, LA., and this will be the third year that the two series have joined forces for the Columbus Speedway race.



Drivers that are expected to be in action this first big racing weekend of May for the area include current O’Reilly Southern All Star point leader and defending series champion Ivedent Lloyd of Ocala, FL., current Cleveland Speedway Driving School Rookie of the Year leader Jason Fitzgerald of Jacksonville, FL., out of the Bobby Labonte Dirt Racing Shop, Chris Madden of Gray Court , SC., Clint Smith of Senoia, GA., Stacy Holmes of Munford, AL., Derek Ellis of Chattanooga, TN., Shane Clanton of Locust Grove, GA., Dillon Wood of New Smyrna Beach , FL., Anthony Hill of Carrollton, GA., Randy Weaver of Crossville, TN., and Travis Pennington of Winston, GA..



Also indications of that some of the SUPR drivers will also be making the trip to North Alabama such as Chris Wall, James Ward, Ray Moore, Duke Whiseant, Jeff Chandler, Allen Tippen, and Kyle Cummings.



Due to the two series getting together there will be special rules for the North Alabama Columbus doubleheader weekend and for that weekend only.



Tires: Hoosier compounds: 1300, 1350, 1600 or any 11, 21, 55 or LM 20 and LM 40. No other compounds will be allowed. Drivers choosing to use the 1300/11/LM20 will have to also have their tires meet a minimum durometer reading which will be announced at the drivers meeting of the events.



Engines: Also drivers who are utilizing Southern United Professional Racing's new all aluminum Spec engine will be allowed to race the engine as per SUPR rules to include 25 lbs of ballast weight in front of the engine center plate.



These exceptions are for the two events listed above ONLY. The O'Reilly Southern All Star Racing Series will revert back to their current tire and engine rules beginning with the May 17th event at Cleveland Speedway in Cleveland, TN and proceed through the end of the season.



Bodies: Teams are also reminded that beginning with the May 17th event the grace period for nose pieces, fender flares, filler panels and other amended body rules for the 2008 season has lapsed and penalties will begin to be duly administered.

May 9 – North Alabama Speedway – Tuscumbia, AL $5000

May 10 – Columbus Speedway – Columbus, MS $5000

May 17 – Cleveland Speedway – Cleveland, TN $5000
