| RODNEY COOK ENDS FAUCETTE'S WINNING WAYS AT ACE SPEEDWAY | By Brenda Murphy
ALTAMAHAW, N.C -July 25, 2008- Reidsville's Rodney Cook finally ended the winning streak of Speedy Faucette of Mebane . Faucette went into Friday nights race with seven in a row wins that started on May 30. Cook had been runner up to Faucette and each week it appeared he was gaining a little more toward the task of taking over that first spot. Cook led the final 63 laps of the 75 lap feature and was rewarded with his first win since May 16.
Cook started in the fifth position and Faucette started in the sixth after a redraw of the top six in qualifying. Along with the win, Cook also collected the $200.00 bounty that had been established by an area businessman as an incentive. Faucette's car had been subject to a very intensive technical inspection after winning last weeks race. Faucette was successful in putting his car back together and setting it up. Faucette showed strong in qualifying and won his eighth pole of the year with a 15.657 which was only a little off the quickest Late Model lap at Ace this year.
Dustin Rumley of McLeansville finished in the third position followed by Elon's Scotty Warren and Gibsonville's Jesse Ingle, III.
Brad Allen of Burlington was the feature winner in the Modified Division. Allen led from start to finish in the 25 lap feature race. It was the fourth win of the season for Allen. Josh Nichols of Cleveland, N C finished second and Burlington's Gary Young, Jr. took third.
Ziggy Zimmerman of Burlington captured the win in the Limited Sportsman Divison. It was his second straight win and his fifth of the season. Eden's Bobby Griffin finished second followed by Pelham's John Moore , the division points leader in third.
The excitement of the night was recorded in the Mini Stock Division. Mocksville's Archie Sanders, at the age of 69, took the win. Haw River's Chad Sykes had been leading from the opening until the 17th lap of the 20 lap race when Archie's son, A. J. Sanders running third got into the back of Michael Tucker and shoved him into Sykes crashing the top two cars. A. J. Sanders was rewarded with a black flag for his over aggressive driving. This elevated Archie Sanders into the first position. Archie Sanders was able to use his talents to hold onto the top position and take the win.
Victory lane became exciting when A. J. Sanders came over to have his picture made with his dad and was greeted with a punch from behind by a woman identified as the mother of Chad Sykes before track officials got the confrontation under control. Mike Herron who placed second made the comment he didn't know if he was safer inside or outside of the car . Chad Sykes ended up in the third position.
The Xtreme race was won by Yanceyville's Harold Jefferson making it his second victory of the year. Gibsonville's Keith Brame, Jr. took second and Burlington's Sandy Edgley finished third after the car of Keith Spake was disqualified following postrace inspection.
Southeast Mini Cups was won by McLeansville's Robert Hamilton. Burlington's Jason Turner, son of Late Model driver Robert Turner finished second. Haw River's Wade Fogleman, son of Ace race director Johnny Fogleman finished third.
Other race winners were Dawn Faucette and Tina Huff in the 10 lap Crazy Ladies chain race.
