| Trevor Sanborn takes Pro All Star Series 200 at Orange County Speedway | By Kimberly Foushee ORANGE COUNTY SPEEDWAY
Rougemont, NC – Trevor Sanborn put a Northern style whipping on a field of mostly Southerners and collected a $10,000 payday in the Pro All Stars Series 200-lap national event Saturday night at Orange County Speedway.
Terry Dease of Oxford, NC, took a 150-lap victory in the track’s local TAG-OUT Late Model Stock Car division.
“Heck, I’m ready to go another couple hundred laps the way my car ran,” said Sanborn, who works at his family’s recycling business in the town of Parsonsfield, Maine. “The longer the race went, the my car got. I couldn’t believe how terrific it was.” Cassius Clay of Farmington made it a sweep for Maine drivers from PASS’ Northern Super Late Model series. He took the lead briefly while working lapped traffic and eventually settled for second. “I drove my tail off, but I just couldn’t stay in front of that 44 car (Sanborn),” said Clay.
Tom McCann, Jr., of Mooresville, NC, finished third, tops among 24 drivers from the PASS South tour entered in the Summer Sizzler 200. “My team doesn’t get to race a lot,” said McCann. “To get third in a field this good is like a victory for us. Those two Northern boys just had us covered.” Sanborn got the eighth starting position in a drawing among the 10 fastest qualifiers for the Summer Sizzler 200. He quickly worked his way toward the front in a 29-car field and led most of the way in his second straight PASS victory at Orange County Speedway. He won a 150-lap race for the Southern tour here June 7th in oppressive heat.
“I felt awful and got dizzy after my last win here,” said Sanborn. “I didn’t even need a drink of water after this one. I can’t seem to win one up North for some reason, but I’ve definitely got the hang of Orange County Speedway.” TAG-OUT Late Model Stock Car winner Dease was fourth in qualifying trials and got the pole position in a drawing among the fastest six. The track’s 2007 champion led the first 140 laps and seemed headed to an easy victory when the caution flag flew. Matt McCall of Denver, NC, pressured Dease heavily from there and the two almost wrecked in the final lap.
“I had the rear of his (Dease’s) car jacked up and I backed out of the gas,” said runner-up McCall, a former regular in NASCAR’s truck series. “I’m not going to turn anybody to win. Terry raced me clean the last time I was here.” Dease, who won $3,000, trimmed third finisher Stacy Puryear’s lead in TAG-OUT division standings to 18 points.
“I got in the gas hard on that last lap and the car just jumped sideways,” said Dease after his second victory of the season here. “I got lucky and drew the pole, but the crew gets a lot of credit, too. They made a few changes to the car after qualifying and it was perfect until those last few laps.” A 150-lap feature for the TAG-OUT Late Model Stock Cars will highlight a six-event program scheduled here next Saturday night.
