2007 ASCS Southern Tour Schedule Announced

From ASCS Staff

TULSA, OK -January 30, 2007- Schedules for the 2007 American Sprint Car Series season keep on coming, as the ASCS Southern Tour slate was released today.

The 2007 schedule for the ASCS Southern Tour currently is composed of 19 nights of racing, including the series' initial asphalt events. Fifteen of the events, contested at nine different tracks throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Virginia, will award points toward the series championship, with Coby Adams reigning as current series king.

The series will kick off the 2007 season on April 28 at Saluda's Virginia Motor Speedway in a challenge versus the new ASCS Mid-Atlantic Region. The event will serve as an excellent tune-up, as just a month later the series will join forces with the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series along with the Mid-Atlantic and Patriot Region for Virginia Motor Speedway's inaugural East Coast Nationals, worth $6,000 to the winner.

Other dirt ovals currently set to host the premier Sprint Car series in the Southern portion of the United States include North Carolina's Carolina Speedway (Gastonia), Tri-County Race Track (Brasstown) and Fayetteville Motor Speedway, South Carolina's Laurens County Speedway and Georgia's Oglethorpe Speedway Park (Savannah), Swainsboro Raceway and Lavonia Speedway.

The events in Savannah and Swainsboro on June 22 and June 23 will be versus the ASCS Rebel Region. The series will also take on the ASCS Rebel Region in a pair of non-point event for the Southern Tour at Sugar Creek Raceway in Blue Ridge, GA, and Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, GA.

On June 9, the ASCS Southern Tour takes to the asphalt for the first time when it takes to South Carolina's Dillon Motor Speedway. The series will return on September 22. Several other asphalt dates are still tentatively in the works for 2007.

Along with each of the other ASCS Regions and the ASCS National Tour, two representatives from the ASCS Southern Tour will be invited to compete in the ASCS/Wesmar Racing Engines Challenge at Devil's Bowl Speedway's Winter Nationals in Mesquite, TX, on October 13. The winner of that event will walk away with a new Wesmar Engine.
