2006 ASA Late Model Series Champions; Kelly Bires, Jesse Smith, and James Buescher honored at the 2006 ASALMS Awards Banquet in Louisville, Kentucky

Lexington, Michigan -January 23, 2007- The ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts has completed both the 2007 ASALMS Drivers/Owners Meeting and the 2006 ASALMS Awards Banquet. Both were held over the weekend at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center in Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday January 20, 2007. Now the ASALMS looks ahead to the Fifth Anniversary 2007 Season in all three divisions.

The Clarion Hotel and Conference Centers' cavernous Banquet Hall was jam packed as over $120,000 in awards, cash, and points funds were distributed to the cars and stars of the ASALMS in all three divisions. Overall during the 2006 season, over $1,000,000 in awards, cash prizes, contingencies, and purses was awarded throughout the three divisions of the ASALMS!

Highlighting the evening was the crowning of the three ASALMS Champions for the 2006 Season; Kelly Bires won both the 2006 ASALMS Challenge Division Championship as well as the 2006 Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year title. 17-year-old Jesse Smith took home the 2006 ASALMS Northern Division Championship while 16-year-old James Buescher won both the 2006 ASALMS Southern Division Championship and Rookie of the Year titles.

In addition, Derek Neville was officially crowned the 2006 ASALMS Northern Division Rookie of the Year while Eddie Hoffman claimed the 2006 GM Performance Parts Shootout Championship in the ASALMS Challenge Division while Alison Quick became the first female Champion in ASALMS history when she took home the ASALMS Northern Divisions' GM Performance Parts Shootout Championship.

The Final Rundown in the ASALMS Challenge Division saw Kelly Bires win the Championship with Landon Cassill coming home second. Eddie Hoffman was third while Chad Wood, Kris Stump, Charlie Menard, Travis Dassow, Brent Downey, Peter Cozzolino, and Jack Smith completing the Final Top 10 in the crown jewel of the ASALMS. Bires would also take home the 2006 Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year title over Jake Ryan and Ken Wills.

In the ASALMS Northern Division, Jesse Smith was the ASALMS Northern Division Champion over Jason Setser, Jack Smith, Peter Cozzolino, Derek Neville, Nick Neville, Alison Quick, Michael Annett, Mike Osgar, and Danny Ouderkirk, who would round out the Final Top 10. Derek Neville beat his younger brother, Nick Neville by
14 points to win the 2006 Rookie of the Year title. Quick finished third in the freshman title chase.

Finally in the ASALMS Southern Division, James Buescher took home the Championship ahead of Dalton Zehr, Dillon Oliver, David Pollen Jr., John Wes Townley, Bo Miller, Colt James, Jay Middleton, Kevin Willis, and Travis Wilson, the Final Top 10.

Buescher also took home the 2006 Rookie of the Year honors over Zehr and Oliver.
