MORAN LAYS THE SMACK DOWN WITH OPENING NIGHT WIN IN 'SUPERBOWL OF RACING' AT G.I.S.

From Victory Lane Communications

BRUNSWICK, GA -January 31, 2007- Donnie Moran snatched the lead from Terry Casey on lap 14 of the main event in the opening night of action at Golden Isles Speedway and roared to the victory on night number one of this year's SuperBowl of Racing at the lightning fast coastal Georgia half-mile racing facility. Moran sped on toward the checkered flag in his MasterSbilt prepared racecar to hold off Casey and a hard charging Chris Madden for the win. Moran's PBM Racing Products Chevrolet was powered by a Vic Hill Racing Engine taking $2,500 in the first of four straight nights of high speed action in the annual event just west of Brunswick, Georgia.

Casey, making his first-ever visit to Golden Isles Speedway, turned heads immediately with the fastest lap in qualifying and held the top spot for the first thirteen circuits. The race was slowed by only two caution periods, the first coming out when Steve Francis slammed into the front stretch wall after suffering a broken suspension. Francis walked away uninjured, but the car was a loss. The second yellow flag waved when Mark Whitener's ride slowed on the racetrack with 6 laps remaining. Following Moran, Casey and Madden to the finish line were Ricky Elliot in fourth and Rick Eckert in fifth.

Heat race action saw NASCAR Nextel Cup star Ken Schrader lose an engine while leading the first of three preliminary qualifiers. Schrader will be back in action when the green flag waves again on Thursday evening in a main event that pays the winner $4,000. Friday and Saturday nights the antes are raised with $10,000 to win and $12,000 to win shows up for grabs as more short track aces continue to arrive at Golden Isles for the second night of the huge event. Grandstand gates open each day at 3:00 pm with racing getting underway at 6:00. Additional event information is available at www.goldenislesspeedway.com or by calling the track at (912) 778-3767.
