CHICAGO, IL -December 19, 2006- Eighteen year-old Rising Star Driver Development wheelman Cameron Dodson shined brightly in the Florida season finale to his diverse 2006 racing schedule. Dodson piloted midgets, winged and non-winged sprints, Silver Crown cars and trucks with the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series during the season as he honed skills and emerged as one of the nation’s most promising development drivers. The Greenfield, IN, driver netted a top-10 and top-5 finish in his Florida finale which consisted of a pair of hotly-contested events.
Driving the #35 entry for Carl Edwards/RE Technologies Racing, Cameron notched an eighth place finish at USA International Speedway’s “Premier Racing Association Big Car Series 100” in his debut behind the wheel of the Silver Crown-style cars. Dodson was the youngest member of a dynamic trio fielded by the NASCAR ace’s team and all three earned a spot in the top-10.
RE Technologies team manager Chris Santucci commented post-race, “Cameron Dodson worked with the car to pull off a top ten finish. All three of these drivers showed they have bright futures.”
Dodson then returned to the seat of his familiar #50m sprint car to prove Santucci’s words true for the “2nd Annual MOPAR PRI Sprint & Midget Classic” at the Orlando Speed World Raceway that was held in conjunction with the industry’s largest tradeshow. In front of a capacity crowd, Cameron maneuvered his way to an impressive fourth place finish and earned bragging rights as the youngest high scorer.
“We ended our season with a pair of top-10 finishes and carrying momentum for 2007,” stated Dodson. “We left a little on the table but I have to thank both the Carl Edwards/RE Technologies’ and Dick Meyers’ teams for the opportunities and cars that were capable of winning. Our goal was to come out here, be in the hunt and let fans and sponsors see there’s more exciting things to come for next year and we did that. I’m ready to go racing!”
