Norman, OK -December 21, 2005- The Kings Royal at Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway is one of sprint car racing’s most prestigious annual events, and in 2006 it once again will be a World of Outlaws show along with five other race nights at the intimidating high-speed, half-mile oval near Rossburg, Ohio.
The Outlaws will invade Eldora on July 14 for the Knight Before the Kings Royal and July 15 for the 23rd Annual Kings Royal paying $50,000 to the winner. The Outlaws also will run events at Eldora on April 7-8, June 3 and Aug. 4.
Jac Haudenschild, who is together again with crew chief Dean “Banzai” Bruns in the Rick Wright-owned No. 35 machine, won last August at Eldora and is seeking his fourth Kings Royal title in 2006. Other 2006 World of Outlaws racers who have won at Eldora include Daryn Pittman, Craig Dollansky, Kenny Jacobs and Jeremy Campbell, who earned a victory in 2004 on legendary promoter Earl Baltes’ final night in charge of Eldora before turning it over to NASCAR Nextel Cup Series champion Tony Stewart.
“The World of Outlaws and Eldora Speedway have a long and storied history together,” said DIRT MotorSports VP of Race Operations Shane Carson. “I remember racing there with the Outlaws early in my career and I’m happy we can provide that opportunity again for many of the future sprint car stars in the 2006 Mean 15. It’s a unique challenge to race at Eldora, but I know our guys are up for it.”
Eldora officials also are looking forward to continuing their tradition with the Outlaws.
“Eldora Speedway was one of the first tracks frequented by the World of Outlaws and we look forward to keeping that tradition alive,” said track promoter Larry Kemp. “Watching those cars fly around our high banks at speeds in excess of 135 mph is what dirt track racing at the Big E is all about.”
DIRT MotorSports and the World of Outlaws Sprint Series continue to shape the 2006 schedule and look forward to the series’ 29th year of bringing the best collection of sprint car racers from coast to coast for what will no doubt be one of the most competitive seasons in series history.
