Satsuma, FL -November 19, 2005- The moon wasn’t quite full on Saturday, but it was close enough at Putnam County Speedway, where a field of nineteen winged sprints put on a wild show for the fans.
Dakotah Stephens took the lead on the green flag in Heat #1, followed by Larry Pickett who came up from fifth position. About halfway through the race, Michael Smith came from sixth position to pass Pickett for second position. Barry McCance spun in turn four and had to be pushed off the track. The final finish in heat one was Dakotah Stephens, Michael Smith, Larry Pickett, Louis Beldock, Barry McCance, Tee Parkinson, and Mark Beldock.
Dan Pickett had the pole position in Heat #2, but Gene Machuga took the lead on the green flag, then contacted the wall on the next lap. On the restart, Brett Cole led the race. Rick Byerly passed Dan Pickett for second position, and Bill Daugherty followed him in third position. Machuga and Mike Love came from the back of the field to take third and fourth place. The final finish for Heat #2 was Brett Cole, Rick Byerly, Gene Machuga, Mike Love, Bill Daugherty and Dan Pickett.
Heat #3 started with Allen Kaluzniak on the pole, and Bruce Durden beside him. Bruce Durden took the lead on the green. Lee Scrape did a 360 in turn four and kept going. Kaluzniak followed Durden in second position for the remainder of the race. Otto Scrape passed son, Lee Scrape before Lee spun again, bringing out the caution that time. Shane Kreidler worked his way from last position to take third place. The finish order for Heat #3 was Bruce Durden, Allen Kaluzniak, Shane Kreidler, Otto Scrape, Wes Scrape and Lee Scrape.
For the feature presentation, the sprints were pushed onto the track, and the fans got the opportunity to mingle with the drivers and get autographs before the start of the race.
Tee Parkinson was on the pole, with Barry McCance on the outside pole. McCance spun, but kept going, and Rick Byerly passed Parkinson to lead the race. Meanwhile, Bruce Durden worked his way from twelfth position to second position, and eventually passed Byerly on the outside to take the lead. Kaluzniak had worked his way from 11th position to fifth position until he and Gene Machuga made contact sending them both to the back. Wes Scrape came from thirteenth position to take the lead from Durden.
With seven laps to go, a five-car collision in turn four wrapped up Bill Daugherty, Louis Beldock, Brett Cole, Allen Kaluzniak, and Dakotah Stephens. Kaluzniak, Stephens, and Beldock could not continue. On the restart, Wes Scrape kept the lead, with Bruce Durden clipping at his heels, and Otto Scrape in a close third.
