KINGSTON, Tenn. -November 7, 2005- Atomic Motor Speedway continued the 2005 season with a special "Run What You Brung" event for the super late models. Randy Weaver blistered the track in qualifying with a lap of 10.972. Weaver's time was slightly short of the late model track record of 10.75 set by Scott Bloomquist in 1991. Anthony White's lap of 11.502 allowed him to start alongside Weaver for the 35-lap feature.
Weaver got the jump at the drop of the green over White and Brett Miller and began to pull away from the field. The cars flew around the track with Weaver being timed even faster than his qualifying run at times during the feature. Anthony White was involved in the first caution of the night as he collected the slower car of Kenny Bradburn as he was chasing Weaver. White suffered a burn to his shoulder when water came out the overflow as he sat still on the track. The pain from the injury ended his night a few laps later. White's misfortune gave Weaver clear track and he blasted away from the field to take the checkers at the end of the feature over Brett Miller, Bradburn, Jim Miller & Mike Weeks.
Brandon Williams and Mark Rosner earned the front row starting spots for the sportsman feature in time trials with fast laps of 12.647 & 12.672. Williams got the jump over Rosner at the drop of the green with Brian Ownby and Mike Weeks giving chase. Around the midway point in the feature Rosner slipped off turn four allowing Ownby and Weeks to make their way past. This would be the turning point in the race. Williams held on to the lead for the entire distance taking the apparent victory. However, a post race protest of the Williams machine was made and Ownby was awarded the victory. Darrick York, Charles Hurst, Mark Rosner & Jason Cardwell were the final top five.
Late model regular Tommy Devaney took the pole in the open wheel modified time trials and led the field to the green. Billy Palmer moved to the back bumper and looked alongside the leader at times during the race, but Devaney held on for the win. Palmer followed Devaney across the line with Danny James, Wayne James & Skimp Henry completing the top five.
Larry Housley blasted to the lead at the start of the pure mini feature and never looked back, leading all 15 laps of their main event. John Stout, Kurt Owens, Jason Manley & Rick King were the final top five.
Steve Welch picked up the win in the pure street division over Roger Smith, Walter Sims, Rick Green & Ray Edwards.
Todd McWherter picked up his third win in four tries in the front wheel drive division. Mark Brown, Allen Walker, Richard Wells and Jack Harvey were his closest pursuers at the end of the 15-lap distance.
