Young Chase Scott of Concord, N.C. claimed his second straight USAC Carolina/Virginia Ford Focus Series Championship after an impressive season in the J & L Industrial Supply, Real Race Cars #4 Beast entry.
“It was a good year,” said Scott. “We tried new combinations and got some things figured out throughout the year. My dad really has a handle on the fuel settings of our cars and Derrick (RRC crew chief) just keeps getting better and better with the set ups.” Scott’s 2005 stats show the focus and dedication the team possessed all season long as they constantly worked to stay one step ahead of the competition. Scott earned victories at six different race facilities including, South Boston Speedway (VA), Tri-County Motor Speedway (NC), Hickory Motor Speedway (NC), Shenandoah Speedway (VA), Mansfield Motorsport Speedway (OH), and the prestigious USAC National Ford Focus event at Limaland Motorsport Park (OH).
“Probably the biggest achievement this year was winning the dirt national race at Lima,” Scott stated. “We struggled earlier on the dirt, but I think Lima proves we can do it all!” In sixteen starts, Scott finished in the top five twelve times, scored seven preliminary wins, and set fast time in qualifying seven times at six different tracks on the USAC schedule. With those blistering qualifying results, Scott earned points to claim the Earl’s Fast Qualifier Award along with his series championship. Scott is tied with Tate Martz for overall career Ford Focus victories with a total of 15.
Scott and the RRC team will be honored at the USAC Awards Banquet in up-coming months for all their 2005 achievements.
As for the future, Scott plans to compete in the Mopar-PRI Sprint and Midget Classic on December 2, 2005 in Orlando, Florida and then start working on deals for next year. He will continue working his way through the ranks of the racing world moving up from the USAC Ford Focus series where he saw so much success.
“There are wins out there that need my name attached to them,” a confident Scott claimed. “Jack Roush said I need big car experience, so that’s where I have been sending my résumé’s.” Scott submitted his racing resume to the Jack Roush “Roush Racing: Driver X” development program being televised on the Discovery Channel. Scott was not selected to the finals but was assured by top executives that he is on their radar for future talent as he continues to gain vital experience as a professional race driver.
“If any big car owners read this, take a chance on a nineteen year old, hard riving, two-time champion and put me in a car,” Scott said with a smile. “I’m ready to step up my career and move into national midgets, silver crown, or stock cars. I am 100% sure, if given the opportunity with the right crew and program, the results will show them they made a good choice.” For more information on Chase Scott, please contact Heidi at hray33@aol.com or Hank at RealRaceCars@ctc.net.
