LAS VEGAS, NV -October 26, 2005- The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series concluded its 28th season at Las Vegas this past weekend with Steve Kinser driving the #11 Quaker State Maxim capturing his record 20th series championship. It was also the sixth consecutive year the series champion rode exclusively on Hoosier tires. During the season, the Hoosier brand compiled a phenomenal 90-1 record eclipsing last year's record mark of 88-1. In fact, every second and third place finisher during the year also rode on the Hoosier brand which was yet another record.
Friday's preliminary race was won by Danny Lasoski who led all 25 laps en route to the $5,000 win. On Saturday, the season finale was won by Tim Shaffer who took over the lead after Sammy Swindell and Craig Dollansky had mechanical problems while each was leading the race. Shaffer collected $12,000 for his fourth feature win of the season. Steve Kinser won his record 20th series title by over 500 points over runner up Jason Meyers. In the final driver rankings, the top ten finishers all rode on Hoosier tires.
Thirty-eight cars were in the pits Friday evening at Las Vegas with 37 drivers opting to ride on Hoosier tires. Donny Schatz was the fastest qualifier circling the 1/2-mile oval in 14.141 seconds (127.289 mph). Schatz posted the top time using Hoosier's softest compound (D10).
The 25-lap feature had all but one driver competing on the Hoosier brand. When the race was over, the first 19 cars to cross the finish line all rode on Hoosier tires.
Danny Lasoski led all 25 laps to capture the $5,000 win using a pair of Hoosier D10's as his rear drive tire combination. Craig Dollansky was second (RD12/D12) followed by Jason Solwold (RD12/D12), Tim Shaffer (RD12/RD15) and Brandon Wimmer (RD12/D12). Brooke Tatnell finished in sixth place followed by Jac Haudenschild, Jason Meyers, Daryn Pittman and Terry McCarl in seventh through tenth, respectively.
FINALELAS VEGAS, NV (October 22) -- With Friday's top four finishers locked into the A-feature, that left 32 cars to take laps in qualifying. Sammy Swindell was fast qualifier Saturday circling the Las Vegas speedplant in 14.128 seconds (127.407 mph). In the 30-lap feature, all 24 starters rode atop the Hoosier brand. Sammy Swindell led the first seven laps before mechanical woes cost him the lead.
Craig Dollansky took over the race lead and appeared to be on his way to his 3rd feature win of the season. But with four laps to go, Dollansky's car failed to take off on a race restart which handed the lead to fifth starting Tim Shaffer.
Shaffer, using a pair of RD12's, held on the rest of the way to capture the $12,000 win. It was the Hoosier brand's 90th win in 91 races contested during the season.
Shaffer was followed to the line by Danny Lasoski using a pair of D10's.
Lasoski picked up $6,000 for the second place finish to go with the $5,000 he pocketed for winning Friday's preliminary race. Lasoski's runner-up finish gave the Hoosier brand a perfect record of 91-0 in runner-up finishes this year in the World of Outlaws Series.
Steve Kinser did the same when he finished in third place opting to use a Hoosier RD12/D12 rear drive combination. Amazingly, of the 273 podium finishers in the World of Outlaws this year, 272 of them rode on Hoosier tires!
Jason Sides finished in fourth place followed by Daryn Pittman, Jason Meyers, Donny Schatz, Shane Stewart, Tim Kaeding and Kraig Kinser in fifth through tenth, respectively.
Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. extends its congratulations to Steve Kinser on winning his unprecedented 20th series championship and giving Hoosier its sixth consecutive series championship. Have an opinion on this story? Post a message on the Message Board! or send a letter to the editor!
