| SAS Fairway Ford 100 scheduled at Volunteer | BULLS GAP, Tenn. – The Huntsville, Ala.-based O’Reilly Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series will make its first of two scheduled visits this year to Volunteer Speedway on Friday and Saturday, July 9-10, for the $10,000-to-win Fairway Ford 100. Also in action over the two days will be the “Ramey Ford” Limited Late Model, “Lawson Chevrolet” UMP Modified, “Allied Home Mortgage” Mini Stock and “Bachman Bernard” Hobby Stock divisions.
Qualifying and heat races will lock the top-16 Super Late Models into the Fairway Ford 100 feature, with positions 17-22 determined through last chance qualifiers, and the final two positions in the 24-car starting field Southern All Star provisional berths.
Jeff Cooke of Spartanburg, S.C., stands atop the Southern All Star points leader board entering the Fairway Ford 100, followed closely by Shane Tankersley of Morganton, Ga. Ed Basey of Evans, Ga., Behind The Wheel/Late Model America rookie points leader Rodney Martin of Cartersville, Ga., and Newport, Tenn.’s Jimmy Owens, a two-time tour winner this season, round out the top-five in the standings. Casey Roberts of Toccoa, Ga., Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., Royce Bray of Hull, Ga., Mike Head of Ellenwood, Ga., and Jeremy Clements of Spartanburg, S.C. complete the top-10.
A strong contingent of East Tennessee competitors should be present trying to keep the $10,000 Fairway Ford winner’s purse in the Volunteer State, headed by current Volunteer Speedway points leader Jeff Maupin of Greeneville and Rick Norris of Kingsport, each a two-time winner at “The Gap” this season.
Others expected include the most recent Southern All Star race winner Patrick Duggan of Lenoir City, fresh off his big $10,000 victory on the circuit over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, Mark Douglas of Knoxville, Dale Ball of Johnson City, “The Southern Gentleman” Freddy Smith of Seymour, Greg Burchett of Church Hill, Kerry Jones of Bristol, Michael Jackson of Greeneville, Scott Sexton of Pigeon Forge, Vic “The Thrill” Hill of Morristown, Herman Goddard of Knoxville, Skip Arp of Georgetown, Brad Hall of Knoxville, Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, Michael Smith of Rogersville, John Llewellyn of Knoxville, Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, Mark Vineyard of Powell, Anthony White of Clinton, Rick Rogers of Knoxville, plus many others.
Southern All Star qualifying and heat races for the Super Late Models, a 25-lap Limited Late Model, and 20-lap Mini Stock features are scheduled on Friday, July 9. Highlighting the Saturday, July 10 racing program will be the $10,000-to-win Fairway Ford 100 for the Southern All Star Super Late Models, plus UMP Modified and Hobby Stock features.
An open practice for all divisions is scheduled for Wednesday, July 7. The pit gate will open at 5 p.m. and practice will begin at 6 p.m. and continue until 10 p.m. The pit gate will open Friday at 3 p.m. and at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The grandstand gate will open each day at 5 p.m. Adult grandstand admission will be $10 on Friday and $15 on Saturday. Pit admission and backside tier-parking will be $20 on Friday and $30 on Saturday.
