Tampa, FL (Feb. 19th, 2004) The Team-USA Modified Lites invaded East Bay Raceway Park for the 5th and final week of Winter Nationals Racing. Opening night for the pint-size powerhouses had excitement in the air, as 80 cars signed for the opening of the Team-USA Mod-Lite season.
Running three competitive classes, Mod-Lites, Classic Mods and TQ-Late Models, Team-USA offers cost effective, competitive racing, on a part-timers budget. The A-Main for the 57 car strong Mod-Lite class would see Kevin Batterbee, out of Houston, Texas take the 9x into Victory Lane. He was followed closely by the Zero-J of Matt Jester from Lincoln, Delaware. Third would go to another Delaware driver, Eric McKinny, while Shannon Buckingham and pole sitter Tracy Fritter rounded out the top five.
TQ-Late Model's saw an all Florida field of 7 cars going for the win. Finishing first would be asphalt racer Rick Stone of Callahan, FL, with MacClenny, FL driver Terry Dugger second. Third went to Jacksonville native, Doug Mikesell, fourth to David Rader and fifth to Rick Dial, both also from Jacksonville.
The Classic Modified-Lites were lead across the strip by Union Springs, AL driver Jimmy McDonald. 'Second went to Shannan Dodson, with Robert Ham third, local driver Shawn Reutimann fourth and Mike Thomas fifth.
The Friday Night program for the Mod-Lites was given a shot in the arm, so to speak, as the East Bay Raceway Park track owners lowered the Grandstand ticket prices to $5 for both Friday & Saturday Night's racing. For more information, call 813-677-RACE (7223).
