WoO Championship Points/Earnings Update Sharon Speedway Race Results

Davey Johnson Scores Career First WoO Victory By Brian Dunlap WoO LMS
After finishing their trip through New York, the World of Outlaws (WoO) Late Model Series stopped in Hartford, Ohio and raced at Sharon Speedway, Saturday June 26th. This time it was Davey Johnson in his #19J Reliable Painting/Malcuit Race Engines/American Racer/Masters built chassis Grand Prix that swept in and picked up the his share of the Bossard-Crawford GMC Chevy sponsored $43,000 purse, a check for $10,000.

Starting from the outside pole position, Johnson pulled away and led all 50 laps of the action packed main event. As the race neared completion, Johnson was able to hold off the hard charging Mike Balzano in his #E1 Smoker Friendly/Biscotti's Restaurant/Eddie's Auto Parts/Hoosier Tire/West Virginia Motor Speedway/Rocket Chassis Chevrolet Monte Carlo and take the checkered flag. In an interview following the race, Johnson accredited his win to help from his crew and his engine builder Brad Malcuit of Malcuit Race Engines. Johnson also commented on the event stating "the track was beautiful and well prepared, every thing was well organized, the way it should be."

Balzano came up just short of Johnson, after starting 5th and making a late charge for the lead. "We went a little hard on the tire and it took us a while to get going, we were able to make up about half straightaway at the end, but there wasn't enough time" remarked Balzano. Balzano went on to state "it was a heck of a show tonight, and were just glad to get our program back on track and headed in the right direction"

Sharon Speedway co-owner and former WoO Sprint car series star Dave Blaney made his WoO Late Model Series debut in Bart Hartman's 75B back-up car. "I was like a fish out of water in the late model, but I had a good time" remarked Blaney. "As a Track owner I was very please, we had great crowd, a good car count and some awesome racing" noted an enthusiastic Blaney.

All of the lap by lap racing action for this hart stopping event can be viewed online. The on-demand broadcast of the entire main feature from green to checkered flag, will be available for viewing Tuesday, June 29th at www.dirtvision.com.
