PENDLETON, Ind. (December 9, 2003) -- The American Speed Association and Grundy County Speedway have announced the ASA Late Model Series and the Chicagoland Late Models will both hold 100 lap events in 2004 at the Illinois racetrack. The Twin 100 lap features will take place on Saturday, June 19 at the .333-mile oval located in Morris, approximately 60 miles Southwest from Chicago.

"The Twin 100's have the potential to be one of the biggest Late Model events in the Midwest," said Steve Einhaus, promoter of Twin 100's at Grundy County Speedway. "Everybody is excited that Grundy County Speedway can be associated with ASA. Having the Twin 100's allows drivers to compete in two Late Model events and for the regular ASA Late Model Series competitors to gain additional track time," said Einhaus.

Grundy County Speedway Fairgrounds originally located at Mazon, Ill., was built at the turn of the century. For years, some of the greatest race car drivers in the country participated at the Grundy County Fair including Wilber Shaw, Maury Rose and Tony
Bettenhausen.

In 1970, the Grundy County Fair Board was faced with a situation where the fairgrounds were obsolete with no adjacent land available for expansion. The fairgrounds were moved nine miles to the North in Morris. The relocated fairgrounds opened with stock
car racing in May, 1971 and have continued since the present time.

Grundy County Speedway is 60-feet wide, .333-mile asphalt oval with 22 degrees banking in the turns and 12 degrees on the straightaway. The speedway is located on Route 47, North of I-80 in Morris, Ill.

The Chicagoland Late Models will revive the rich tradition of the Wayne Carter Classic 100 in 2004. This event, which began in 1971, has seen some of the premier short track racers in the country take the checkered flag, including Dick Trickle and Joe Shear.

The ASA Late Model Series begins ASA's tradition at Grundy County Speedway in 2004. The entire 2004 ASA Late Model Series schedule continues to be formulated with a total of 14 events expected to make up the final slate.
