Sorenson Continues March To ASA Rookie Title

Reed SorensonPendleton, Ind. (September 15, 2003) – Recording his 11th top-10 finish in the last 12 outings, Georgia’s Reed Sorenson has built his largest points lead in the $50,000 Rookie of the Year standings.

After 14 of 17 ASA Racing Series events, Sorenson leads Florida’s Travis Kittleson by 271 markers. Kittleson experienced mechanical problems that relegated him to a 17th place finishing position at Elko
Speedway in the Greased Lightning Orange Blast 400 on Labor Day.

Sorenson has posted five top-five finishes, with only a pair of finishes outside the top 10. Piloting the ACDelco / Port City Racecars / Tilton Engineering Chevrolet for Automotive Promotions Inc., Sorenson has produced a best finish of third,
initially at USA International Speedway in March and Hawkeye Downs Speedway in May.

Kittleson continues to rank solidly at second in the rookie standings, producing five-top five finishes in 2003, including a best performance of second at Concord Motorsport Park in April.

Wheeling the Bob Steele Chevrolet, Kittleson also finished third at Toledo Speedway, fourth at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway and fifth at the season-opening Jani-King 200 at USA International Speedway in March.

Davin Scites of West Virginia, climbed to third in the rookie standings after placing 10th in the Greased Lightning Orange Blast 400 at Elko. The driver of the John Michael Montgomery Chevrolet scored the biggest victory of his career in April, winning the BFGoodrich Tires 250 at Concord Motorsport Park, passing
series veteran Mike Garvey on the final lap of the event.

Illinois competitor Boris Jurkovic is fourth in the point standings, finishing 26th at Elko, after dropping out of the event with handling problems. Jurkovic recorded a best finish of his career at Indianapolis Raceway Park in June, crossing the line in fourth spot. Driving the Phil Hines Racing Chevrolet, Jurkovic has produced one top-five finish and two top-10s.

Ohio’s Kris Stump is fifth in the freshman standings, after being listed 29th at the lone stop in Minnesota. With sponsorship backing from McDonald’s and Noah Yoder Ford, Stump has posted a best finish of ninth at Indianapolis Raceway
Park.

The 15th event of the 2003 ASA Racing Series is set for Saturday, September 20 at Illiana Motor Speedway in Schererville, Ind. The CITGO/MDA 250 presented by Jani-King takes the green flag at 8:00 p.m. (Local) and will be telecast live on SPEED Channel starting at 9 p.m. (EDT).
