Baker Makes ASA Debut at Illiana with Lorz Motorsports

Pendleton, Ind. (September 11, 2003) Southern late model standout Regan Baker of Alabama will make his ASA Racing Series debut at Illiana Motor Speedway in the CITGO/MDA 250 presented by Jani-King on Saturday, September 20.

"I'm pleased to have an opportunity to compete in ASA," said Regan Baker. "I'm looking forward to working with Lorz Motorsports at Illiana. ASA is a great series to be involved with and I can't wait to get going. With the experience I have gained in late models, I feel the transition will be smooth."

Baker will test the Lorz Motorsports No. 54 Chevrolet at the latter part of this week at Illiana in preparation for the event. Baker will be testing with first-year competitor Toby Porter and the Meijer Chevrolet.

Baker was born into a racing family as his dad, Ed Baker, drove a Porsche on road racing courses and ended his driving career with a victory at Daytona on the road course during Daytona Speedweeks.

Regan began his driving career at road racing rallys and also competed in Topeka, Kan., before moving south to New Brockton, Ala. in 1988 and moving into stock car short racing on asphalt ovals.

Driving in the Limited Late Model division, Baker recorded six wins, seven runner-ups, and six outings finishing in third position. He finished outside the top 10 on only one occasion during the 1998 season.

Advancing to the powerful Super Late Model machines in 2000, Baker bagged a win, added three second-place finishes and three additional podium performances at South Alabama Speedway. In 2001, he competed in a limited schedule and finished second in two races at the South Alabama Speedway.

The 2002 season started with Regan finishing third in the Rattler 125 . He followed that with four consecutive top-five finishes at South Alabama Speedway, the only driver in 2002 to accomplish that feat.

In the 2003 "Rattler 125" Baker again finished third on his way to another successful season. In nine Late Model races at South Alabama Speedway, Regan has an average finish of 2.7, which indicates consistency and skill on the part of the driver.

Baker has also made two appearances in the Alabama-based Southern All Star Racing Series, recording one top-10 finish.

Dan Lorz, owner of Lorz Motorsports, has intentions of securing the funding to compete in the full 2004 ASA Racing Series schedule.

Lorz Motorsports can be contacted at (815) 464-4950.
