Cywinski Maintains ASA Points Lead

Crossing the finish line in the sixth position at Elko Speedway in the Greased Lightning Orange Blast 400, Kevin Cywinski maintained his points lead over three-time ASA National Champion Butch Miller, who finished one position behind him in seventh.

After 14 of 17 events in the 2003 ASA Racing Series season, Cywinski has a 107-point lead on Miller.

Cywinski has collected 10 top-five finishes and 13 top-10s in 2003. During the first half of season, the driver of the Greased Lighting Orange Blast / SK Hand Tool Chevrolet initially won at Houston Motor Speedway in Texas and added a second trip to the winners circle at the Mansfield Motorsports Speedway in Ohio.

Cywinski added his first victory during the second half of the season, taking the checkers at Jennerstown, Pa. in a rain-shortened 137-lap event.

Miller continues to rank second in the standings, scoring his most recent victory at Madison International Speedway in the BFGoodrich Tires 250 on Friday, July 18.

The pilot of the Timber Wolf sponsored-car began the season with a win at USA Intl Speedway and earned a second trip to the winners circle at Toledo Speedway. Miller has collected 12 top-10 finishes and three poles.

Completing a late-race pass on 1995 ASA National Champion Bryan Reffner, series veteran Mike Garvey scored his fourth victory of the season and 17th of his career. This marked his eighth top five and helped him advance him to third in the standings. With backing from Jani-King, Garvey has scored three additional victories at Lanier Natl Speedway, Hawkeye Downs Speedway and I-70 Speedway.

$50,000 Rookie of the Year points leader Reed Sorenson is fourth in the standings, recording his 12th top-10 finish at Elko Speedway in the Greased Lightning Orange Blast 400. Driving the ACDelco / Port City Racecars / Tilton Engineering Chevrolet, Sorenson has produced a best finish of third on two occasions, initially at USA International Speedway in March and Hawkeye Downs Speedway in May. He leads Floridas Travis Kittleson by 271 points in the rookie standings.

After taking the checkers in Erie, Pa., Ohios Robbie Pyle finished second at Elko on Labor Day. He remains fifth in the point standings, just 30 markers behind Sorenson. Driving for Wal Tom Racing of Chicago, Pyle has collected seven finishes in the top five including a victory and five additional podiums.

Freshman competitor Travis Kittleson remains sixth after finishing 17th in the Greased Lightning Orange Blast 400. Bryan Reffner is seventh after posting a season best third at Elko with Todd Kluever in eighth. Two consecutive fourth-place finishes have placed Rick Beebe in ninth with two-time event winner Peter Cozzolino rounding out the top 10.

The 15th event of the 2003 ASA Racing Series is set for Saturday, September 20 at Illiana Motor Speedway in Schererville, Ind. The CITGO/MDA 250 presented by Jani-King takes the green flag at 8:00 p.m., (Local) and will be telecast live on SPEED Channel starting at 9 p.m. (EDT).
