Greased Lightning Orange Blast 300 at Salem Highbanks Set for October 4

Pendleton, Ind. (September 4, 2003) – Making its annual appearance at the legendary .54-mile oval of Salem Speedway in Southern Indiana, the ASA Racing Series is set to attack the high-banked oval on Saturday, October 4, for the Greased Lightning Orange Blast 300. This marks the third trip to the state of Indiana in 2003 and the 39th showing at Salem Speedway.

ASA officials announced the event has been given title sponsorship rights to Greased Lightning and a new product known as Orange Blast. Greased Lightning has had an extensive prior involvement in ASA Racing with both series and team sponsorships. Utilizing the same technology as Greased Lightning, Orange Blast is a Super-Strength Multipurpose Cleaner Degreaser that contains more than twice the natural grease cutting orange oil than any other leading brands in the category. Orange Blast wipes out tough cleaning jobs, while leaving the room filled with the fresh citrus fragrance of
orange.

Orange Blast is great for removing built-up grease & grime and is also safe on a wide variety of surfaces including countertops, cabinets, aluminum, stainless steel, chrome, vinyl and much more. Orange Blast is available in a 32oz. spray bottle and NEW 67.6
oz. convenient refill size! Orange Blast can be purchased in food, drug, mass, and home improvement retailers nationwide.

Last season at Salem, after four consecutive runner-up finishes David Stremme used a bumper on Gary St. Amant with five laps remaining to score his first ASA victory in the Tecumseh 300.

“This is awesome,” said Stremme after collecting $21,655 for his first win in 26 ASA starts. “I feel bad about that deal with Gary (St. Amant), but we didn’t come here to
finish second.”

Pole-sitter Kevin Cywinski led the opening 106 laps chased by teammate Dan Fredrickson and Mike Garvey. Following the first of two pit stops by the leaders,
Stremme emerged in first followed by point’s leader Joey Clanton and Garvey. Tuttle came out in fifth with St. Amant running seventh.

Stremme led until lap 218 with Tuttle running second and Garvey in third following 100 laps of green-flag racing, leading to a competition yellow. When all the leaders stopped for a second time, St. Amant took the lead chased by Stremme, Tuttle, Fredrickson and
Garvey

The South Bend, Ind., native chased St. Amant for 75 laps following the final round of pit stops. Stremme looked high and low on the high-banked oval for a way to complete the winning pass.

With a capacity crowd on its feet for the final five circuits, Stremme, St. Amant, Russ Tuttle, Robbie Pyle and Jason Boyd raced nose-to-tail for the victory.

Stremme used the front bumper of his Meijer Chevrolet to get inside of St. Amant coming off the second corner, with Tuttle poised to take advantage of any slip by the two leaders.

St. Amant and Stremme raced side-by-side down the back straight and into turn three. Stremme drifted up in the corner, which caused St. Amant to brush the wall, allowing Tuttle to move into second.

At the finish, Stremme took the checkers, 1.5 second in front of Tuttle with St. Amant, Pyle and Boyd filling out the top-five finishers.

“I got a good run coming off turn two and our cars were equal going down the back straight, we bumped a little in turn three and Gary (St. Amant) brushed the wall. We
need a win. This is a strong team and we showed it.”

In the 38 previous events at Salem, seven-time ASA National Champion Mike Eddy tops the victory charts, winning a total of five events. 1989 Rookie of the Year Scott Hansen and all-time victory leader Bob Senneker are tied for second, both earning four checkered flags. John Anderson and Darrell Waltrip have won three times, with Michigan standout Randy Sweet grabbing two victories.

Single-event winners include, Ed Angle, Harold Fair, Dick Freeman, Don Gregory, LaMarr Marshall, Mark Martin, Denny Miles, Butch Miller, Mike Miller, Tony Raines, Tim Sauter, Neal Sceva, Tim Steele, Bob Strait, David Stremme and Gary St. Amant.

ASA returns to Salem Speedway for the Greased Lightning Orange Blast 300 on Saturday, October 4, with the first of two practice sessions beginning at noon. Pole qualifying is set for 4 p.m. with a fan autograph session and live musical entertainment
to follow. The Greased Lightning Orange Blast 300 goes green at 8 p.m. (Central)

Tickets are available through the ASA office at a cost of $25 for general admission seats. Discounts are available when purchasing in advance. For additional information, contact the ASA ticket line at 1-888-ASA-1020.
