Kenny Adams wins USCS heavyweight bought at East Alabama

Phenix City, Alabama - The two heavyweights that have championed the last three United Sprint Car Series seasons slugged it out for 30 laps Saturday night again in Phenix City, Alabama on the fabled high banks of East Alabama Motor Speedway. When the final round ended 2000 USCS National champion Kenny Adams from Malabar, Florida defeated defending USCS Champion Terry Gray and twenty other contenders from seven states to land in victory lane and claim the $2500 prize money that included a $500 feature winner bonus posted by Goodson Farms of Balm, Florida. This was Adams sixth USCS win and tenth overall thus far this season.

To say that Adams who was driving his bright red # 4A Don Ott powered Goodson Farms/ Got Milk/ Coca Cola/ Putnam County Speedway/ C&B Mushrooms and Hodgetel sponsored Shaw car, likes East Alabama Motor Speedway would be an understatement as this was his third win in a row over the past three years at the 4/10 mile clay oval. The win was not easy though as current USCS points leader Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee who started on the pole next to Adams kept the pressure on the entire 30 laps thru five caution periods and a red flag restart. Gray driving his familiar black #10 Wesmar powered Wendy's and Goodson Farms sponsored Maxim ride appeared to have a pass made for the lead several times low off turn four but, Adams, who used the high line to his advantage charged down track to ward off his toughest competitor who congratulated him in victory lane after the slugfest.

Danny "The Hammer" Martin from Sarasota, Florida, who won the evenings third heat race, capped a great performance on his first ever visit to East Alabama by racing his white #00 Schnee car home third behind the veteran duo. Wily veteran sprint car racer , "Strollin' Roland" Johnson from Zephyrhills, Florida raced home fourth followed by possibly the evening's hardest charger Jeremy Scott from Franklin, Georgia who started way back in fifteenth place in the talent laden field. Scott's charged moved him closer to the top of the USCS Dirt Series point standings behind Gray and Marietta, Georgia's Jim Raptis.

2003 East Bay Raceway sprint car points leader,Johnny Gilbertson from Dover, Florida drove home sixth followed by 2002 USCS top rookie driver Randy Weaver from Powder Springs, Georgia in seventh, 1997 USCS champion Red Stauffer from Winter Park, Florida finished eighth after starting twenty first, AOAS points leader Brice Wrenn from Lexington, South Carolina finished in ninth and Jim Raptis rounded out the top ten.

The Airflow Research Power Dash qualifier went to Adams who had a sweep when his win in the second heat race was included.Gray won the first heat and newcomer Danny Martin won the final qualifying heat race after his crew made repairs suffered in hot laps. The evening's Huggins Cams "Hardcharger" award which goes to the driver that passes the most cars in the A main event went to Stauffer. Jeremy Scott received the event's KSE Racing Products 'Outstanding Performance Award for his impressive drive to the top five from fifteenth.
