| Monday, November 24, 2003 | | | Donnie "Red" Taylor receives 2003 USCS "Crew Chief of the Year" Award | Atlanta, GA - Three time USCS National Champion Terry Gray's crew chief, Donnie "Red" Taylor from Southaven, Mississippi was named the USCS National Championship "Crew Chief of the Year" by the United Sprint Car Series (www.uscsracing.com) at the 7th annual USCS Champions Awards Luncheon held at the Special Events Center in Newnan, Georgia.
This is Taylor's second such award from the series, he received the same award after the 2001 season. USCS Founder and President Pete Walton presented the award and said " I only wish Red could be here today to receive this. This is not in sympathy, he really earned it long before the accident. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers"
An emotional Terry Gray accepted the award for his long time crew chief and friend Taylor who is in the Intensive Care Unit at Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Florida with serious injuries from a helicopter crash. The crashed claimed the life of the pilot, Strawberry farmer and Goodson Farms, Inc. race team owner Donn Goodson and Goodson Farms team / Kenny Adams' crew man, Billy Harter on October 21st.
It was learned earlier that day, Gray informed that Taylor's, condition (which had been improving) had recently changed and he had breathing problems and was placed back on a breathing device for assistance. Please keep this great racing brother in your prayers!
