| Adams rallies for Fall Brawl "Biggie" win at Putnam County | Satsuma / Palatka, FL - Kenny Adams from Malabar, Florida picked up his eighteenth United Sprint Car Series and twenty fifth overall winged sprint car victory on the season Saturday night at Bob Potter's Putnam County Speedway. Before Adams who blew an engine on Friday night, made his way to the front position, a whole lot of racing went on with two impressive young guns, first Johnny Gilbertson, then, 17 year old, Danny "Hammer" Martin, Jr. leading the $2500 to win 30 lap event around the challenging 3/8 mile clay oval.
Gilbertson from Dover, Florida, started on the outside front row next to Lee Scrape from Orange Park, Florida and jumped his #21Maxim into the lead in the first turn and held the point until lap seven when Martin, Jr. raced by to lead the next twenty laps. Just when it looked like the talented young driver from Sarasota, Florida who has won seven times this season would pick up his first win with the USCS, Adams used his experience to go by on the outside of turn four on lap twenty six in the Goodson Farms/Putnam County Speedway/Coca Cola/Hodgetel#4a Shaw he was driving. A caution for Roland Johnson and Ryan Meyers in a turn one tangle on the next lap put Martin and Friday night's winner, Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee Gray on Adams' back bumper for an exciting three lap dash to the checkers Adams held on over Martin and Gray for the emotional victory lane visit.
In victory lane, Adams dedicated the win to car owner Donn Goodson who is still in critical condition in Tampa General Hospital from his helicopter crash last Tuesday and to fallen crew member Billy Harter who did not survive the crash incident.
Lee Scrape finished in the fourth spot followed by East Bay Raceway Park points leader, Gilbertson, then 1997 USCS Champion Red Stauffer from Winter Park, Florida was sixth, All Star Circuits of Champion star, Greg Wilson from Benton Ridge, Ohio drove Ron Hammonds yellow number 20 home seventh, Terry Witherspoon from Orange Park, Florida was eighth, Indy Car racer Jimmy Kite from Stockbridge, Georgia, who was involved in a lap twenty six collision with a lapped car while running in the fourth position, raced back to ninth and Roland Johnson finished tenth. The event's Huggins Cams "Hard charger" award went to Adams who started from the eighth position to win. The KSE Racing Products "Outstanding Driving Performance" award went to Danny Martin, Jr. for his crowd pleasing performance. Matt Stegeman received the Hart Racing "top rookie" selection for the event. Terry Gray won the Airflow Research Power Dash, and heat races went to Jimmy Kite, Danny Martin, Jr., and Greg Wilson.
Next weekend on Friday October 31st and Saturday night November 1st, the USCS drivers return to East Bay Raceway Park in Gibsonton (Tampa), Florida for the final two night's of the 2003 USCS Florida Fall Brawl. Friday night's "Trick or Treat Thunder" main event will pay $1500 to win and the Lonnie Prevatt Memorial Race on Saturday night will pay $3000 to win.
