For many years the fans of Sunshine have had the privilege of watching one of the most determined competitors to ever cross the X. He didn't have the straightest sheet metal. He didn't have the best paint job. He didn't have a deep pocketed car owner or sponsor, but he won on a regular basis without the best of equipment. He wasn't flamboyant or outspoken in the pits ,but on the track, just the announcing of his name made you want to cheer him on.He tried to retire this year.He said he was selling everything and walking away. But the competitor inside, the one that makes us go back each week and forget what a dangerous sport we take part in,wouldn't let him. We didn't want to see him go then, and now we don't have a choice. Let's hope that when we get too caught up in the moment and scream and yell at the guys (and gals) we race with, we can stop and think about "Wild" Bill and realize it's just not that important that you didn't get lined up on the restart in front of that car you just passed.Or that the announcer mispronounced your name.Rick from Karnac wrote about the racing family, and how we stick together in the face of adversity. This is one of those times.
