| Brandon Thomson has Solid Run at Caraway - Heads for Rickingham | by Dave Westerman
After being rained out the week before at Concord, NC, St. Cloud, FL driver Brandon Thomson was back behind the wheel of his Thunder Roadster this past Saturday night at Caraway, NC Speedway.
Rain again toyed with the competitors as a light drizzle forced cancellation of qualifying with the feature race line-up for the 16 entries based on the point standings heading into the event. That placed Thomson on the outside pole for the feature race.
Crews also had to guess on race set-ups as practice was held under mostly sunny and hot conditions but after the rains came and went, the temperature dropped significantly. Thomson ran second through much of the race but was battling a "loose" condition.
Following several caution flag periods, the race ended with Thomson finishing a solid third.
"The car was really a handful coming off the corners, so I just drove steady and tried not to make any mistakes," said Thomson. "Next week is a big week for us, so it was important we rolled this car into the trailer in one piece," he said.
Thomson left Caraway still second in points. Thunder Roadster veteran Kyle Beattie picked up the race win over Adam Welch, Thomson, Michael Van Wingerden and Jim Fluharty with Travis Bare, Taylor Hull, Scott Knox, Benny Mingo and Dustin Allmon rounding out the top ten.
The Roadsters (recently re-named Thunder Cars) now headed for a huge racing weekend at Rockingham Speedway which will also be hosting ARCA for its grand re-opening.
The Roadster race is part of the "Race To The Top" series and a big announcement is expected this weekend involving Rockingham Speedway, ARCA and INEX, the organization that builds and sanctions the Thunder Cars. The ARCA race at Rockingham will be on Sunday while the Roadsters will be the featured attraction on Saturday with qualifying at 2PM and racing at 3:15PM. Have an opinion on
