Danny Smith opens O'Reilly Midwest All Star Series Season with a Win

CAMARGO, IL (04-11-08) by Robert Cortum - Midwest All Star Series

Danny Smith of Danville, Indiana has won an event with virtually every series he has driven with. Add one more credential to the long list of accolades, 2008 Midwest All Star Series Feature Winner.

Despite threats of rain and consistent winds, the O’Reilly Midwest All Star Series opened the season Friday night with much enthusiasm at the Benton Race Park in Benton, Missouri. Track crews worked diligently to prepare the track for the opening event after days of rain in the Southeast Missouri area brought with it cancellations at many other facilities in the area.

The “Last Remaining True Outlaw,” took control of the feature within the first few circuits after finding the spot that fit best for his popular Doug Williams Trucking Maxim #4 on the track. Smith was threatened periodically in the feature event by reigning Benton Race Park Sprint Car Champion, Tommy Worley, Jr towards the end of the race and outside front row starter, Jimmy Hurley in the onset.

Rounding out the nights top 5 were Tommy Worley, Jr., AJ Bruns, Jimmy Hurley, and Wade Oliver. In a race that saw a lot of the off-season cobwebs shaken off of many of the drivers and the cars, completing the top ten were Keith Burch, Jason Keith, Joey Boyd, Jerrod Hull, and Jason Hunt.

Ryan Bunton took home a couple of honors on the night. The Morton, Illinois native drove his 6R to the front of the pack in qualifying and also showed the way during the nights Dash event. Heat Race winners were, Jerrod Hull - 1st Heat, Timmy Montgomery - 2nd Heat, and Tommy Worley Jr. - 3rd Heat.

On the schedule next for the “Best of the Midwest” will be a Memorial Day stretch beginning at the Benton Race Park on May 23rd.

The O'Reilly Midwest All Star Series is proud to welcome the inclusion of the Route 66 Hotel and Convention Center as the official O'Reilly Midwest All Star Series stay while at the Mount Vernon Speedway over the Memorial Day weekend. The O'Reilly Midwest All Stars would like to thank the Route 66 Hotel for the added contribution for discount rooms while touring in 2008

The Route 66 Hotel and Convention Center is located in nearby Springfield, Illinois and is a perfect for a 2-night stay as the the O'Reilly Midwest All Star Series will be rockin' the Mount Vernon Speedway on May 24th and then 2 nights later at the famed Quincy Raceway in Quincy, Illinois. Reservations can be made in advance for this busy and exciting weekend of racing by teams and drivers by logging on to www.rt66hotel.com or by calling the front desk and asking for Judy Gordon at 1-888-707-8366.

The hotel is located just off Interstate 55 and 72 on and has ample parking for haulers and the teams. There is also an abundance of restaurants and shopping in the area, making this an ideal place for a 2-night stay in the Land of Lincoln.
