Team FASCAR honors top ten in Sunbelt, Goodyear Challenge, and Pro Mods | by Jane Smith
Titusville, Fla. (December 13, 2003) Team FASCAR celebrated the end of the 2003 season for the Sunbelt Super Late Models, Goodyear Challenge Late Models and Pro Mods last Saturday night amid colorful balloons and Christmas decorations at the Elks Lodge in Titusville, Florida.
Although the 2003 Sunbelt Super Late Model Champion Wayne Anderson was racing at Citrus County Speedway that night, a few of the top ten were present to receive their trophys and money.
Jay Middleton, second in points, brought his own trophies he gave out to his crew for all their hard work in 2003. Middleton, who is only 19 years old, not only finished second in the Sunbelt Series but won the Florida Pro Series. This young man has proven that hard work and determination does pay off and we expect to see the name Jay Middleton more in the future.
Fain Skinner, fourth in points, also won Rookie of the Year. Skinner, who has had his ups and downs in 2003, expects only good things in 2004. Along with Skinner was fifth place Barry Willoughby who drives the No. 74 Pennzoil car. Willoughby, who was the SARA Modified Champion in 2000, hopes to also add the title of Sunbelt Super Late Model Champion under his belt.
John Barker, writer for the Lakeland Ledger and the Sunbelt Series and Goodyear Series, gave out his own trophies to Sean Murphy and Jerry Artuso. Artuso, who is from Canada, won the 2003 Goodyear Challenge Late Model Series by a handful of points over Rich Clouser in the last race of the year.
Clouser, second in points, also was named the Rookie of the Year. Also attending the banquet was fourth place Sean Murphy, fifth place Steve Smith, and tenth place Brad May.
Winning his second championship in a row was Jerry Symons in the Pro Mod Series. Alan McCafferty came in at a close second and was also present for his trophy along with third place Skip Honaker. Jim "Hoot" Flynn finished fourth and made the biggest splash of the night when he tackled the raffle prizes (cokes and sprites) and sent them rolling all over the dance floor. Needless to say, there was a mess of cokes on the floor.
Alan Bruns also picked up his seventh place trophy for the Pro Mod Series.
Guests then enjoyed dancing and just visiting with friends.
