SCHOOL BUS FIGURE 8’s ON NEW YEAR’S DAY | A lot of wild and crazy events have taken place over the years at Charlotte County Speedway. The race scheduled for New Year’s Day takes the cake.
How about a School Bus Figure 8 race? It will unfold the afternoon of Jan. 1 at the Punta Gorda paved oval as part of the Hangover Enduro 250 festivities.
The 250-lap Hangover Enduro plus School Bus Figure 8 competition will start at 2 p.m. New Year’s Day, Thursday, Jan. 1.
The School Bus Figure 8 will pay $1,000 to the winner. It will be the first race on the new Figure 8 track at CCS, which was completed in the fall. Visions of the big yellow buses whizzing through the X will no doubt have thrill fans on the edge of their seats. The Hangover Enduro 250 will pay $2,000 to win and $1,000 for second through 10th. The starting order will be determined by date of entry. There are also activities planned for the night before New Year’s Eve. It’s called the Eve of Destruction a collection of bizarre competition. Eve of Destruction entails a bunch of off-the-wall events that are a surefire fun way to celebrate New Year’s Eve. There will be a Train Race, Reverse Race, Blindfold Race, Midnight Ride Race, 4-Car Elimination Drags, Tug-O-War, Burn Out Competition, Front-Wheel Drive Enduro, a Women’s Enduro and a Switch-Off Enduro. The pit gates open at 4 p.m. Racing will begin at 7 p.m. Fan admission for the Eve of Destruction on New Year’s Eve will be $10 for adults. Fan admission for the Hangover Enduro and School Bus Figure 8 is $15. Charlotte County Speedway is located off Exit 161 of I-75 on Piper Road in Punta Gorda.
