                   It's time to race!

December 10

A lot of wild and crazy events have taken place over the years at Charlotte County Speedway. The race scheduled for New Yearís Day takes the cake.

How about a School Bus Figure 8 race? It will unfold the afternoon of Jan. 1 at the Punta Gorda paved oval as part of the Hangover Enduro 250 festivities.

The 250-lap Hangover Enduro plus School Bus Figure 8 competition will start at 2 p.m. New Yearís Day, Thursday, Jan. 1.

The School Bus Figure 8 will pay $1,000 to the winner. It will be the first race on the new Figure 8 track at CCS, which was completed in the fall. Visions of the big yellow buses whizzing through the X will no doubt have thrill fans on the edge of their seats.

The Hangover Enduro 250 will pay $2,000 to win and $1,000 for second through 10th. The starting order will be determined by date of entry.

There are also activities planned for the night before ≠ New Yearís Eve. Itís called the Eve of Destruction ≠ a collection of bizarre competition.

Eve of Destruction entails a bunch of off-the-wall events that are a surefire fun way to celebrate New Yearís Eve. There will be a Train Race, Reverse Race, Blindfold Race, Midnight Ride Race, 4-Car Elimination Drags, Tug-O-War, Burn Out Competition, Front-Wheel Drive Enduro, a Womenís Enduro and a Switch-Off Enduro.

The pit gates open at 4 p.m. Racing will begin at 7 p.m.

Fan admission for the Eve of Destruction on New Yearís Eve will be $10 for adults.

Fan admission for the Hangover Enduro and School Bus Figure 8 is $15.

Charlotte County Speedway is located off Exit 161 of I-75 on Piper Road in Punta Gorda.
