Orlando SpeedWorld Sees the end of 2003 Race Season this Friday

by Jane Smith

Bithlo, Fla (October 11, 2003) The 2003 Points season for Orlando SpeedWorld ends this Friday night. Some championships have already been won but there are a few up in the air plus a number of top ten finishes could still change with finishes on Friday.

The Super Late Model Championship is so close that Friday night will give us the 2003 Super Late Model Champion. B.J. McLeod leads Rusty Ebersole by 8 points going into Friday night's race. Watch as B.J. comes from the rear due to his win last weekend. This will definitely be a close race.

Ricky Wood is set in third place and cannot lose it since he holds a
100 point lead over Ronnie Roach in fourth who is also set. Fifth place Rick Bates and sixth place Eric Deffendal are also set in stone. However, David Hart holds seventh but has not raced in some time and is tied with Rick Lyons in eighth. Lyons, if he races, will definitely move up and take over seventh. Mack Hanbury sits only 12 points behind Lyons and also has a chance to better his points standing. Jared Allison sits tenth.

The Open Wheel Modified Championship is another close race with Matt Wheeler holding a 16 point lead over Shane Held. Both Wheeler and Held have won during the year and have proven that either one can win the championship. Lynn Dicandio sits third and has it locked up as he leads Jason Boyd by 44 points who sits fourth. Even if Boyd wins the race, Dicandio will finish third.

Glen Bradley sits fifth and will finish fifth with Dave Riley in sixth and ending sixth. Jared Allison holds a solid seventh place standing. Frank Polly sits in eighth but if either Teri Bryant or Jim "Hoot" Flynn show up and gain 16 points on Polly, they could take over eighth. Bryant and Flynn are tied in ninth and tenth with 100 points each.

Richard Hight has already won the 2003 Sportsman Championship with his
767 points standing. Coming in second, third, and fourth in done deals are Donnie Smith, Danny Shearer and Justin Hall. Shearer has exactly a 40 point lead over Hall who was our newest "first time" winner last Friday. Hall would have to win the race and Shearer not show to tie in points.

Michael Albert built up enough points in the beginning of the season to hold fifth followed by Robert Hight in sixth. Cory Kaiser sits in sventh and only 24 points behind Hight so these two could change standings if Hight is a no show. Doug Samion holds eighth but ninth place Bill Hall could still move up since he is only 16 points behind Samion who has not raced lately. Rob Kayse looks to be a solid tenth place standing.

Tim "Missileman" McPhail has won his second Mini Stock Championship at SpeedWorld. McPhail is the champion. However, second and third place Dick Laszlo and Sean Bass will duke it out Friday night as they are only 16 points apart in second and third. Either one could find themselves second in points.

Randy Blakeslee sits fourth but only has a 8 point lead over fifth place R.J. Arnone. Arnone blew his engine and drove the No. 61x of Rick Gamache last weekend to keep up his points. So this also could be a very close battle. Coming in sixth and only 24 points behind Arnone is Michael Seay. Michael Williams, Jr. stands seventh followed by Robbie Storer in eighth, only 8 points behind Williams. Both Williams and Storer have not raced and if either show, the game could go either way. Terry Westcott and Bob Delmastro are tied in ninth and tenth and if either one does show, they too would move up.

Cory Freed has won his second consecutive Super Stock Championship as no one can catch him. Ron Whaley comes in second but he also has been a "no show" so third place Bob Beiler could take over second Friday night. Beiler stands only 12 points behind Whaley. Bob Wines has locked up fourth.

Andy Nichols and Mike Soukup could go either way as they run fifth and sixth. Nichols holds a 8 point lead over Soukup. Ron Edwards sits seventh but only 16 points behind Soukup. Jeff Wright sits eighth with a 8 point lead over ninth place Billy Cuddy. Wally Semrow has tenth locked up.

Heats and features will run Friday night as the season comes to a close. Grandstands open at 6 p.m. with racing action at 8 p.m. Orlando SpeedWorld is located between SR50 and SR520 in Bithlo, Florida.
