Legends Add  to Citrus Co. Speedway Excitement

Inverness, Fl. - The Florida Legends Series returns to their home race track and home for the Legends Winter Nationals, Citrus County Speedway. Andy Logan will  try to make it three in a row at the fast quarter mile . The balance of the field will be trying to overcome the six straight wins that patches has put together since his awesome comeback in the Winter Nationals in February.

Danny Johnson (271) closed in on Mike Bresnahan (274) in the Late Model
Points race last week. This  has drawn the attention of every Citrus County Speedway fan this season and spiked the curiosity of new fans in the five county area. Terry Cater (241) will continue in the hunt this weekend being chased by Keith Zavrel (224) and Tom Haselmayer (199) who missed last week’s action. Dale Sanders (165) got a late start but is working his way up the ladder and will be shooting for his second win.

Mike Veltman (378) continues to run strong and heads up the Limited Sportsman action, tallying 4 feature wins and 8 out of 9 top five finishes on the young season. Robert Pilkinton (333) has a 17 point lead on Rex Struble (316) as Eddie Silcox (237) continues to finish well after being disqualified in his only feature win. John Gann rounds out the top five over the 18 cars that have run for points this season. The 50 lap Limited Sportsman special has been postponed until a later date.

Victor Stanley (312) gained some cushion in the Street Stock points lead with his second place finish last week. Joe Gill (295) is looking for a comeback this week after sliding back to a ninth place finish. David Kingsbury (255) moved to fourth in the points race, logging his 3rd feature win last week and surviving a motor protest in tech. If he puts it back together the way it was running last week he will definitely be the man to beat. Herb Hoefler (224) rounds out the top five and is having fun in this division being chased by 37 cars that are participating in this hot points war. Starting fields have been averaging 22 cars every weekend.

Victor Stanley (120) brought back his rebuilt racer and locked on to his second Figure 8 win last Saturday, moving him to fourth in points, just 2 points up on Ken Saltmarsh. Robert Aaron (146) remains at the top of the heap with a solid 24 point lead on rookie, Tommy Malicoate (122) and Ken Crews (122). Figure 8’s will be taking this week off and return to action on Saturday, May 22nd.

Mini Stocks are chasing Jim Smith (345) who logged his 8th top five finish last week and has an 18 point lead on defending champ, George Neumann (327).   Frank Coleman (327) got back on track after a DNF two weeks ago, dropping him from the points lead and  is tied for second. Holding out in fourth is John Coleman (313), 22 points up on Lenny Brown (291) who raced in the limited sportsman last week  and  his crew member couldn’t get his mini stock to the track due to illness.

John Levecque (331) inherited his 4th win of the season after apparent winner Mike Merlin was disqualified for an illegal engine, which he had borrowed for the night. Roy Perkins (313) jumped up two spots and is in a tight race for second with Don Teague (310) who slipped to third after his worst finish of the year in 9th last week. Allen Jacobson (287) dropped to fourth in the points race and has decided the new motor is not doing the trick and will probably put the old motor back in his racer and try to recover. Steve Thomas (278) holds out in fifth in a very limited schedule at Citrus this year, winning 3 out of five races he has run.

The Street Legal Junkers continue to grow in numbers and will be added to the 6 divisions on the race card this weekend. Grandstand gates open at 4:30 and the first heat is scheduled to take the green flag at 6:30. General admission is $10, Seniors and Students to 17 is $8 and children 10 and under admitted for $2. Pit fee is $20 and pit gates open at 3:00. The speedway is located 2 miles south of Inverness on U.S. 41 at the Citrus County Fairgrounds.
