IT'S TIME TO RACE!!
November 7, 2009
Ken Smith Wins the Flyin 4 Feature Race at ASA Sanctioned Desoto Super Speedway
By Tom Blakeley

November 7, 2009, (Bradenton, Florida) The weatherman gave us a break tonight as the cooler air penetrated the South’s Fastest Short Track. That same cool air did not penetrate the hot racing action which was cut short due to low car count. Only feature races were run tonight but that didn’t stop the fierce competition that heated up the track.

Pure Stocks. The Pure Stocks were on top of their racing game tonight. The 25 lap feature race was won by Robert Crisp in the #2 car who drove a great race and fought hard for this win. Billy Carlbert Jr. in the white #47 car took a close second place while Troy Thiem in the #18 car won the third place money. On lap number three the #47 car driven by Billy Carlbert Jr. lost his right door and the yellow flag dropped.

Flyin 4’s. The Flyin 4’s ran a race that had everybody standing and cheering at the finish line. Ken Smith in the #11 X car took the checkered flag for this 20 lap feature race. Smith jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back as he lead the entire race. Derrick Horton in the #27 car was second to cross the finish line and Josh Pillar in the #11 Banana Peel Yellow car was third.

They were not happy with that so they put a perfect ending to the nights racing with a crazy20 lap figure eight race. Taking the checkered flag for the figure eight race was Billy Carlbert Jr. in the #11 car while Chuck Mathis in the #2 car was second, and Thomas Willis in the #17 car won the third place money.

Trucks. The trucks really put on a show considering the low truck count and this 20 lap race was a good one. Going to the winners circle was Stephen Darvalics in the #41 truck. Taking second place was Charlie Montgomery in the #12 truck. The third place winner was Blair Pontious in the #39 truck. The truck race tonight was the last of the season and a nail biter as the championship was on the line. Three points separated the leader in points Nick Hernandez, from the number two driver. The first lap was run three wide and then on lap 3 Hernandez had to pit due to a rear end problem, and he did not come back. Winning the Truck Championship for the 2009 season was Stephen Darvalics by one point, what a close points race it has been.

Open Wheel Modifieds. The Open Wheel Modifieds turned some incredible times and high spped tonight. Maybe the cooler weather had something to do with the fast laps. Winning the 15 lap feature race was veteran driver Pat Nanney in the #60 car. The second place money went to Kyle Cooper in the # 40 car, while Mark Nelson won third place in the #11 car.

Next week will be a very special night at the speedway. There will be a Celebration of Life for Richard Rowe and a benefit fundraiser for K. Klein. The feature race of the night will be a 74 lap switch off race where the regular drivers for the cars will start the race and then half way through the race they stop and change drivers.

There will be many Super Late Model drivers participating in the switch off race and it should be a lot of fun.

The gates will open at 5 PM and racing will start at 7 PM. The Memorial Service for Richard Rowe will be earlier in the afternoon at around 1PM. Desoto Super Speedway is located just 9 short miles East of I75 on SR # 64 in Bradenton, Florida.

Give us a call at 941-748=3171 or check us out at www.desotosuperspeedway.com The emtire staff of Desoto Super Speedway will do everything possible to make your night of racing fun and safe.
