IT'S TIME TO RACE!!
August 10, 2009
Jeff Scofield leads the way at Desoto Super Speedway
By Tom Blakeley

Bradenton, Florida (Saturday August 8, 2009) It appeared as if Mother Nature was going to be the big winner tonight at the ASA Sanctioned Desoto Super Speedway, but the godfather put some pressure on the weather guy and he blew the clouds and rain North and it was full tilt racing by 7:15 P.M. It was a good crowd considering how bad the weather appeared to be right up till race time. There were 20 Super Late Model cars that made for an exciting evening of racing. Jeff Scofield in the #21 S car, jumped to an early lead in the feature 75 lap event and lead all the way to the finish line. Joe Boyd in the #5 car simply ran out of time and took second place, but Joe was chasing hard and had multiple chances as the many yellow flags created opportunities. The restarts for this series are double file so that made for some exciting restarts and provided some opportunities throughout the field. Chris Fontaine also drove a great race and won third place in the #47 car. Fontaine started near the rear and worked and picked his way through the field. Scofield however drove a great race and deserved the checkerd flag. The racing was hard but clean. The field of twenty cars finished only 11 cars. This was not due to any bad accidents but more spinouts and cars breaking and going into the wall.

The Super Late Models also ran three heat races with Wayne Anderson in the #84 car winning the first heat race. Matt Bowers in the #84X car won the second heat race. Anthony Campi in the #81 car won the third heat race. The Racecar Engineering Hoosier Elite Series put on a whale of a show for the fans.

The Racecar Engineering Hoosier Elite Series has many wonderful sponsors. The drivers and fans would like to thank Southern Racing Fuel, Basset Wheels, E Z Up Tents, Longacre, Wilwood, FLF Chassis, Advanced Racing Shocks, Butler Built, Quickcar, Allstar, Sweet Parts of Florida, Joe’s, Simpson, Racecar Engineering, Ricky Saunders Pit Equipment, Winters Performance, Ringer Gloves, Howe, Five Star Bodies, and ARP Bodies.

Rockem Sockem Bombers. The bombers put on a show that is considered by most to be one of the best races of the year. While only 5 cars showed they bunched up and ran the entire race within three car lengths. Steve Elder, Randy Spicer, John Stewart, Jody Collins, and Michael Crooks all deserve congratulations as they put on a great show for the fans. Steve Slder in the #42 car won the 20 lap feature race. Randy Spicer in the #83 car took second place and John Stewart in the great looking #02 car won third place. Jody Collins in the #32 C car won the Bomber heat race. An awesome night for the Rockem - Sockem Boyz. It is no wonder that this class is a fan favorite.
Flyin 4’s. The flyin 4’s are taking the track and the fans hearts in a whirlwind manner. There is week in and week out some great racing and some very hard racing going on with this group. Veteran and former Pure Stock Champion Randy Johnson won the 25 lap feature race tonight. The Pink Bullet #91 car driven by Jessica Ostrovskis won second place while Dalton Baldwin in the #4 car took third place. With CCMP getting rained out 3 of the drivers from that track came up and raced along with the flyin 4’s. Jeremy Perkins in the #22 car took 4th place, Derrick Horton in the # 27 car took 6th place and David Doty in the #05 car took 7th place. These drivers seemed to enjoy the DSS experience and the staff of DSS thanks them for coming up to visit.

Magic 4’s. The Magic 4’s ran both a heat race and a feature race. The feature race was won by Austin Cavey in the #20 car. Austin drove a really great race and it has been fun watching him improve every week. Brittany Barr in the #81 car took second in the feature and Dallas Troyer in the #01 car won third place. There was lots of “slippin”, ” slidin” and “yella flags” but the kids put on a great show and they all had fun. The heat race was won by Dallas Troyer in the #01 car. The age range for this class is from 11 years old to 17 years old, and all the cars are 4 cylinder and run on the inside shorter oval track.

Street Stocks. The Street Stock class only had 4 cars but they raced a great race. Robert Haygood in the #84 car won the 20 lap feature race. James Naney in the #6 car took second and Dennis Wilson in the #42 car won third place. Robert Haygood also won the Heat race.
Modified Mini’s. The Modified Mini class feature race was won by veteran driver Brian Dorer in the #97 car. Mike Birk Jr. in the #10 car took second while Dennis Colletti in the #4 car was third. Mike Birk Jr. also won the heat race for the Modified Mini’s.
