IT'S TIME TO RACE!!

Brian Dorer Wins Modified Minis at Desoto Super Speedway
Team Politically Incorrect wins the Stock Car Soccer Game at ASA Sanctioned Desoto Super Speedway
By Tom Blakeley

June 13, 2009 Bradenton, Florida Yes you read it correctly, yes it says Soccer and Stock Cars in the same sentence and yes Team Politically Incorrect won the game 3 goals to 2 goals over the Kitchen Krew. How much fun can one person stand on a hot Saturday night? There were lots and lots of laughs, some “oohs” and some “awes” at the ASA Sanctioned Desoto Super Speedway tonight. It took a few minutes to set up the goals and get the cars lined up head to head, but then the fun began. It began with three teams but there was only one winner. The winner however had to win it in overtime and a “next team to score wins it all” being declared as the match was tied at two goals each. Team Testosterone was eliminated by the Team Politically Incorrect who then faced The Kitchen Krew for the final round. Each round had a time limit of 5 minutes. The drivers of each team were as follows:
Team Testosterone: Kevin Shepard in the #92 car
Austin Craig in the #10 car
Team Kitchen Krew: Craig Jackson
Chris Dodson
Jason Godwin
Team Politically Incorrect: John Stewart in the #02 car
Jerome Watland in the #31 car
Steve Elder in the #42 car
Jody Collins was a late scratch for Team Politically Incorrect as the 32C car lost the transmission in the Feature Race.
The cars were flying around as the 6 foot around soccer ball got bounced from bumper to bumper meanwhile no car got damaged and the drivers had a blast. The winning team won $300 for their efforts and Steve Elder said it was the most fun he has had in a long time. The fans really got into it and were screaming and yelling for their team. A good time was had by all. The ASA Sanctioned Desoto Super Speedway is always willing to try new things and here is another new way to make Short Track Racing what it is meant to be and that is more FUN. The Desoto Staff will be working hard to get the manicured grass infield back in shape for next week’s racing, as it was really torn up.
Rockem Sockem Bombers. The 6 lap heat race for the Bombers was won by Randy Spicer in the #83 car. Jody Collins took second place while Kevin Shepard Sr. in the #92 car won third. The feature race was a 25 lap affair with Randy Spicer again winning it. Taking second was Steve Elder in the #42 car and John Stewart in the #02 car won third place. The racing was very close and lots of side by side and bumper to bumper action for the entire 25 laps. It was one great night for Randy Spicer, we are sure his daughter Megan (who is serving in the military) would be proud of her Pop’s big night.
Modified Mini’s. The heat race for the Modified Mini’s 6 lap event was won by Mike Birk Jr. in the #10 car. Chad Rose in the #0 car was second and Mitchell Webb in the #6 car was third. The feature 25 lap race was won by veteran driver Brian Dorer in the #97 car. Dorer’s #97 car was one hot looking car with some awesome graphics. Mike Birk Jr. in the #10 car took second and third went to Mitchell Webb in the #6 car. The Modified Mini’s will be back at ASA Sanctioned Desoto Super Speedway on June 27th.
Pure Stock’s. The Pure Stock class ran 2 heat races tonight. The first heat race was won by Austin Craig in the #10 car. Robert “it is all about the Benjamin’s” Crisp took second in the #2 car. Steve Elder in the #42 car won third place. The second heat race was won by Jimmie Best in the #67 car. Troy Thiem in the #18 car took second and third belonged to John Brown in the #6 Coast Guard car. The feature race was won by Robert Crisp in the #2 car and Troy Thiem took a very close second in the #18 car. Robert “Showtime” Yoho in the #75 car won third place. John Brown was home on leave from the Coast Guard and wanted to run a race with his friends at Desoto Super Speedway. It was good to see John again and we all wish him the very best on his current tour of duty. Next week is the 50 lap Richie “Pops” Thorbin Memorial race for the Pure Stock’s.
Mini Cup’s. The American Mini Cup Racing touring series took the track by storm. The track clocked speeds in excess of 75 miles per hour for many of these little warriors. They ran two heat races of 8 laps each. Winning the first heat race was Jacob Callaway in the #07 car. Taking second place was Jeremy Root in the #4 car while Tony Martin in the #44 car won third place. Winning the second heat race was Ric Cline Jr. in the #37 car. Cindarae Irish in the #5 car was second and third place belonged to Jeff Sweet in the #00 car. The 25 lap feature race was won by Jacob Callaway in the #07 car and he ran away from the field. Ric Cline Jr. in the #37 car took second and third was won by Cindarae Irish in the #5 car. It was good to have this traveling series join the Desoto Super Speedway Team.
Open Wheel Modified’s. The Open Wheel gang ran a 6 lap heat race that was won by David Grogan in the #10 car. Pat Nanney in the #60 car took second and Ricky Coffin in the #61.5 car won third place. The 35 lap feature race was won by Pat Nanney in the #60 car with David Grogan in the #10 car taking second. Third place was won by Bobby Baldwin in the #4 car. The small car count did not take away from the action as the Open Wheel Modified’s raced fast, hard and clean.
Street Stock’s. Not a great night for the Street Stock class. It started with a small field of cars and ended with a hard wreck that did not need to happen. The heat race of 6 laps was won by John Sarppraicone Jr. in the #66 car of Joey Barnes. Duane Best took second place and Derek Lucas in the #88 car was third. The feature race was called after 23 laps with Dennis Wilson in the #42 car winning it. Derek Lucas in the #88 car was second and third was John Sarppraicone Jr. in the #66 car. It will take some figuring out this week by the officials at ASA Sanctioned Desoto Super Speedway.
Join us next Saturday as the 50 lap Pops Thorbin Memorial Pure Stock Race will be joined by the leg #2 of the Truck Grand Slam 50 lap race along with Flyin 4’s and Magic 4’s. Check us out at www.desotosuperspeedway.com or call us at 941-748-3171. The ASA Sanctioned Desoto Super Speedway is a serious stock car track that believes it is all about having fun.
