IT'S TIME TO RACE!!

Bradenton Florida May 2, 2009. With hot summer like weather the racing action was even hotter as drivers and fans got all the action they could handle. The action started early on with the Magic 4’s and reached the summit with a fast win in the Street Stock class, by the veteran driver Jimmie Best in his great looking # 67 car.

Jimmie took 2nd in the Heat Race which was won by Joey Barnes in the #66 car, but make no mistake he drove flat out to win the 50 lap Feature Race tonight. Taking second place in the Feature Race was Dennis Wilson in the #42 car. Third place belonged to Joey Barnes in the #66 car. At times the bumping and rubbing got pretty wild however, these veterans know how to drive and drive they did. Not a lot of cars but a very competitive, close, and good race.

The Magic 4’s started the night off with a bang, and a crash or two. The first 6 lap Heat Race was won by Pistol Pete’s pride and joy, Brittany Barr in her #81 car. The second Heat Race was won by Zac Campilonga in the #30 car.

e Feature Race was won by Austin Cavey in the #20 car with Dallas Troyer in the #01 car taking second. Third place was won by Brittany Barr in the #81 car and she drove up through the field from the rear starting position. There was a tense moment as Zac Campilonga hit a tractor tire and was finished for the night. He was also taken to the hospital to have his wrist and hand checked out. The magic 4’s continue to amaze the crowd with the intensity of their driving and improved skills.

The Rockem Sockem Bombers had a great night of racing action. The first Heat Race was won by Steve Elder in the #42 car. The second Heat Race was won by Randy Spicer in the #83 car.

The Feature Race was a race to the finish with the top 4 cars basically either being side by side or bumper to bumper the entire race. Todd Jacobs in the #44 car went right into the lead at the drop of the green flag and held it for 18 laps. Lap 19 was when all the fun began and the crowd went to their feet. Steve Elder in the #42 car won the Feature Race with Randy Spicer in the #83 car taking second place.

The race of the night was Todd Jacobs and his buddy Jody Collins battling it out for third. The results had to be reviewed by the officials on the video tape and Jody Collins in the #32 car was awarded third place by 4 inches crossing the finish line. What a great race and everybody was a winner as it was good old hard, clean racing. John Stewart in the #02 car hit the wall very hard and the car may be finished, everyone was just glad John was ok, as it was one hard lick. It was another terrific run for the Bomber class.

Pure Stocks. The Pure Stock class is really closely matched, and that makes for exciting racing. The field was dialed in and winning the first Heat Race was Billy Carlbert Jr. in the # 47 car. The winner of the second Heat Race was Troy Thiem in the #18 car. The Feature Race was won by Robert Crisp in the #75 car owned by Showtime Robert Yoho. Crisp usually drives the # 2 car but it broke in practice and Yoho stepped up and gave the ride to Crisp.

Our Desoto Drivers are a class act and always helping each other out. Taking the second spot in the Feature was Billy Carlbert Jr. in the #47 car. Racing a great race and winning the third place spot was Richie Shepherd Sr. in the # 30 A car. There was some great driving with spins that didn’t hurt any cars or damage anybody.

Desoto Champ Karts. The Thundering Herd of Desoto Champ Karts invaded the asphalt oval tonight. The first Heat Race was won by J. D. Cordon in the #99 kart. The second Heat Race was won by Brian Scherrer in the #57 Kart. The Feature Race was won by J.D. Cordon in the #99 Kart who set a record with his 6th win. Second place was won by Chad Dokken in the #73 Kart while Robin Pope Jr. in the #00 Kart took third place.

Last year’s Super Late Model Champion David Wilson is back to his winning ways. David is racing the NASCAR Whelen All American Series with Lee Faulk Racing in the Carolina’s. Last Friday night at Tri County Speedway, David qualified 2nd and missed the pole position by .003 seconds. Starting outside pole David jumped into the lead at the green flag and never looked back, winning the 50 lap Feature.

On Saturday night David took second place in the Feature Race at Hickory Motor Speedway. It was quite a weekend for our former Desoto Champ. Everyone at Desoto Super Speedway wishes David all the very best, he is making us proud.

Join us next Saturday May 9th as racing will start at 7 PM and gates open at 5 PM. It will be Pepsi night at the track with the Super Late Model Racecar Engineering Hoosier Elite Series 75 lap race. Also racing will be Open Wheel Modifieds, Pure Stocks, Rockem Sockem Bombers, and the Flyin 4’s. Bring the family and enjoy at great night of racing action. Check us out at www.desotosuperspeedway.com or give us a call at 941-748-3171. We are located 9 short miles from I-75 on State Road #64 in Bradenton.
